Love me two time, baby, love me twice today
Love me two time, girl,I'm goin' away
Love me two time girl, one for tomorrow,
one just for today
Love me two times
I'm goin' away
Love me one time, could not speak
Love me one time, yea,my knees got weak
Love me two time, girl, lasts me all through the week
Love me two times,I'm goin' away
Love me two times,I'm goin' away
Alright,yea
Love me one time, could not speak
Love me one time, baby, yeah,my knees got weak
Love me two times, girl, lasts me all through the week
Love me two times,I'm goin' away
Love me two time,babe
Love me twice today
Love me two time, babe,'cause im goin' away
Love me two time, girl, one for tomorrow,
one just for today
Love me two times,I'm goin' away
Love me two times I'm goin' away
Love me two times I'm goin' away
An interesting Robby Krieger song released in December 1967 and making #25 in the US singles charts. This was among the first songs Krieger wrote along with LMF back in 1965.
It's said that the song reflects the band on the road and away from their loved ones juxtaposed with the US army in Vietnam. But this does not add up as Krieger wrote this in December 1965 possibly January 1966 and The Doors were not on the road then and whilst Vietnam had seen 200,000 US soldiers deployed the war not kicked off in any major way at that time.
"So I went home and wrote ‘Light My Fire’ and 'Love Me Two Times'.These are the first two songs I ever wrote....took about an hour' Robby Krieger.....on the request by Morrison that each member go home and write a song.
Without doubt a song of loss and missing those you love so the Army explanation holds most water.
Apparently Jim Morrison was not that keen on the lyric and this might explain why the song did not make the debut album as it was recorded first for those sessions.
Second time round with the help of a jazz inspired Manzarek and Densmore groove in support of Kriegers guitar picking the song made the cut and was released as part of Strange Days the bands follow up album.
The song released as a single in December, 1967, which was the same month Jim Morrison was arrested on stage in New Haven after an on-stage rant against a cop who had maced him him backstage after finding the singer with a young girl.
This incident, combined with the rather suggestive lyrics of "Love Me Two Times," enhanced the dark, rebellious image of The Doors, but also scared them away from some family-friendly radio stations that refused to play the song.
It reached its chart peak of #25 on January 13th 1968, but could have done a lot better if Morrison's baggage wasn't attached to it.
