Gonna tell your daddy that we need some dough
We're gonna get married down in Mexico
We got love, don't need no more
But all we got to live on is a hardwood floor
You know all we got to live on is a hardwood floor
We got love don't need no more
All we got to live on is a hardwood floor
All we got to live on is a hardwood floor
All we got to live on
All we got to live on
All we got to live on is a hardwood floor
Like I said before
Well I had a lot of money about a year ago
Spent all my money on a rock 'n' roll show
I got a lot to tell, aint got nothing to show
All we got to live on is a hardwood floor
On this hardwood floor
On this hardwood floor
Well I went to see your daddy but he sure got sore
He said you oughta be out there fighting the war
I asked him for some money, he said what for
I told him all we got to live on is a hardwood floor
You know all we got to live on is a hardwood floor
We got love don't need no more
All we got to live on is a hardwood floor
On this hardwood floor
On this hardwood floor
On this hardwood floor
All we got to live on is this hardwood floor
All we got to live on is this hardwood floor
A very interesting Krieger song written with Ray in mind as a singer.
Telling the story of a couple in love who have nothing but the floor beneath their feet.
Sort of an allegory for The Doors during this period.
'Well I had a lot of money about a year ago
Spent all my money on a rock 'n' roll show'
Showing how fortunes can change as The Doors by this time with their Full Circle album were finding life increasingly hard as the feel good factor of Other Voices had dissapated and the band were receiving a lot of criticism for the new jazzy Doors.
'All we got to live on is a hardwood floor'
Became very true for The Doors who floundered forever shortly after Full Circle's release.
the song starts with some jangly Krieger guitar overlaid with Robby on mouth harp and then Ray comes in with his bar room piano and best Screaming Ray vocal.
The female vocal backing is out of place and does give a feel of some kind of revivalist meeting but apart from that it's not bad musically and vocally.
The most interesting aspect of course is that Krieger shows off his harp skills throughout especially in the second half of the song.

What direction do YOU think the band would have gone in if they had carried on after Full Circle?
What could have the doors become?
Should the band have carried on at all without Jim Morrison in 1971?
35 Years On....should The Doors have carried on?
Could an effective Doors replacement have been found for Jim Morrison in 1972/73?
Could Jim have been replaced in 1972?
What has been the best Post Jim Doors moment for YOU in the last 35 years?
