I bought a copy of "The Best Of The Doors" video tape when it was released in 1997. This video tape has several of the same film clips used in previously released commerical videos with the exception of Strange Days which includes circus performers and a group of people walking together holding cardboard cutouts of Jim's face fashioned to wooden sticks. (Ray must have come up with this concept.)
They show a clip from the Critique show where Jim is discussing his poetry which lasts about 3 mins. There is a video put to the clean version of Gloria that uses two models, one of which is supposed to be Jim and The Ghost Song from American Prayer shows a variety of shots of the three surviving Doors in a studio of some kind with images of Jim projected in large forms.
The most important aspect of this video was the fact that they showed film footage of Jim, Robby and Ray playing cards in a Holiday Inn Hotel room in Fresno, California, October 22, 1967. The clip only lasts about 2 1/2 mins and then later on in the tape another clip is shown this time with John Densmore entering into the room and being asked how his camping trip was. There is another minute and half clip of Jim being interviewed in San Diego, September 5, 1970. In this clip for I would suppose a tv station, Jim talks briefly about artistic freedom and the trial he is going through in Miami. There is also a couple of 30 second or so clips from a Miami/Dade County police officer talking about swearing out warrants for Jim for indecent exposure at the Dinner Key Auditorium March 1 1969.
Would it be too much to ask Doors management if there was additional film footage from the Holiday Inn in 1967? I wonder what happened to the rest of what they filmed? There was a marker slapped several times in the clips they showed. It's a mystery as to what additional Doors film footage the management does possess and have been keeping under wraps.
