Anyone interested in hearing an hour of the Bakersfield Gig go here.... www.doorsinnercircle.net/ look in the Alex folder...does not include Ship Of Fools or The End nor does it include the version of LMF that was probably pleyed......also the LM2X is missed off as its the same version as the sampler..... It does include the much talked about blues track Old Stone Road which Jim does during the AS/BDM/5-1 medley and a nice version of WTMO......quality is damn good for a non soundboard recording. Also you can find the Jim/Robby version of BDM from Cinematique 16 from 1969.

Having had the opportunity to listen to this gig quite a bit now it amazes me why this was shelved on the grounds given by Manzarek that it was not good quality....what a bizarre excuse...... Its a 30 odd year old tape and comes off pretty bloody good considering its not a soundboard.....its a far better concert than Philedelphia and woukd get even better with the addition of The End and LMF.....seems crazy really when BMR needed a really stellar release to drag it off its arce. Rumours abound now that Ray does not want Pittsburg released either as he does not like his performance so I fear that BMR is about to dissapear without trace if it does not release something pretty amazing soon. If these Pitsburg rumours are true then it seems vanity is now coming into play and hypocrisy too as it seems OK to show Jim in a bad light when he is drunk at gigs like Boston but a few bum notes from the musicians and we can't hear it.............. Personally i don't care if these guys are drunk, off thier heads or play bum notes......all I wanna hear is my fave four musicians in concert...warts and all.......... The gig itself is pretty damn good...... Roadhouse Blues is great as is the version of WTMO. The talking point is without doubt the excellent Old Stone Road which is a typical 1970 Morrison bluesy 3 minutes added to the usual Backdoor man/Alabama song/5-1 standard. In a similar vein to Love Hides it makes you wonder how many more of those Morrison moments made thier way into Doors sets and how many are recorded? The only downside is the obligatory 14 minutes wasted with Black train Song which infest the 1970 gigs.....once I quite enjoyed it but to be honest its The Doors most boring moment and should have been replaced with a coupla Doors songs......... Anyone else got any views about Bakersfield? ?

To me, Bakers is an average to above-average show where Jim gives an uninspired performance for the majority of the show (like IOW).
The high points are: Universal Mind, best version ever Old Stone Road, refreshing to hear a different medley WTMO, Jim sounds like his early days here "Confusion...." Ship of Fools, Land Ho lyrics are cool Love Me Two Times, best version ever
Is Bakers better than Philly? possibly but Jim sounded more inspired to give a good performance in Philly imo.
Either way, Bakersfield deserves to be released officially. Bizarre to think they don't want to release the whole thing considering they paid Vince $25,000 for it. You'd think they'd want to get some of it back. Plus, they don't have too much in the vaults as far as live shows are concerned and they refuse to purchase tapes from collectors/tape holders so you'd think they'd try to milk what ever they already have.

Yeah was a lovely version of Universal Mind....... How's about sharing your Ship Of Fools with the rest of us King G as that track was apparently faulty and therefore could not be transferred to a computer to share with fans? ??

Ship of Fools is now in the Bakersfield folder for download....its not bad but like Mystery Train its not one of my favourite Doors live numbers. (love it on the album but not live)
The set list for Bakersfield is most likely this although its possible that there are missing tracks that should fit in this list.....
Bakersfield 70 Roadhouse Blues Alabama Song Back Door Man (includes 'Old Stone Road' improv) Five To One Universal Mind When The Music's Over Mystery Train Ship Of Fools Love Me Two Times LMF (possibly) The End
Current information is that the version of LM2X is the same one as the BMR sampler and the final three tracks Love Me Two Times/Baby please don't go/St James Infirmary/LMF/The End are on a second tape reel that has not as yet made its way out into the wider world. If this tracklist is correct then Bakersfield is not quite as long as was thought.........Greg Shaw mentioned it as 3 hours whilst Danny Sugerman said it was more likely about the same as Detroit. We now have just over 60 minutes of the gig (not including the sampler version of LM2X) so its not likely that the other 3 tracks are over an hour.
Also the question of the jumping from mono to stereo that seems to happen in the recording was answered a while back by one of the LL mods.... A lot of people have been asking about the Bakersfield recording and if it is flawed. 'Love Me Two Times', which was included in the BMR Sampler, seems to go from stereo to mono a few times. Just so you know, a majority of the concert is not like that. It happens in 'Love Me Two Times' and in a few other places, but not a majority of the concert. What happened was there was a loose wire and the left channel drops out a few times. So what Bruce Botnick did was copy the right channel over to the left to cover the moment and it made it monaural for those times only. He felt that this would be better than having the sound jump from stereo to the right channel only and back. I don't think people will have any complaints about this show. It is a great show.
