“Prefer A Feast Of Friends To The Giant Family”
by Stuart Henderson, Falkirk, Scotland.
"BOOM BOOM BOOM my heart was going as lain Boyack and myself were briskly walking along the seine to Shakespeare and co for the poetry reading, make no mistake
I was VERY VERY nervous and Alex from his report picked up on that as he noted I was sitting nervously in the chair, boy was he right.........and then some....
Michelle Campbell was up first with a nice reading of "Graveyard Poem" as we were waiting on a few more people to arrive.
The first Poem I read I believe was Jim's Own "Paris Journal" and as a naturally nervous person I said to myself "Here we go" and I surprised myself as I got through the poem OK even though I fluffed a couple of words (Damn!)
I cant speak for anybody but me but I felt the energy in the room, the place was ideal for a tribute to Jim as the place was a ‘Literary Goldmine’, full of history.
Alex and Rick came up and recited some poetry as I sat and watched I thought "this is going good" before the 2nd poem I read the nerves were still there but not as much..... I was actually beating my fear!.
Iain did an atmospheric recital of Jim's
"The Soft Parade" and went along smoothly
I asked a few times if anyone else would like to recite.
I motioned to young Alex and give the guy credit, he was reluctant to come up at first
but came up and did a good reading of
"Horse Latitudes".
Eressie came up and did some of her own poetry which was very good, her poem "Solitaire" made a mark on me as she recited it with defiance, a very good poem.
It was very good for Darryl Read to come along and recite some of Jim's and his own work, no nerves on him!.
I did a couple of my own poems and they seemed to go over really well which made me feel chuffed as I was wondering how mine would be received
The event I noticed was being taped so at some point it would be good to see this as would be good to have it for posterity.
I would like to say thanks for Nick Jackson for it being his brainchild, thanks very much to everyone who came and watched and recited, everybody did really well
And a very Special Thank you to Jim, I hope we made you proud, thanks for the words." SH.
