THE DOORS LIVE - MEDIA LINE'S INTERVIEW WITH BRUCE BOTNICK JANUARY 23, 2001
Subject: Bright Midnight Records
JV: "If things are exhausted from your vaults would you ever consider doing what Frank Zappa has done - the Hendrix people have done it too, a kind of "Amnesty" situation, where people can bring tapes to you..."
BB: "We've already put that out on the web, we're asking people if they've got recordings of shows that we didn't record, and there are lots of shows that we didn't record, and there are lots of shows that are on cassette and historically it's worthwhile to have it and we'll put it out...there's no amnesty there - nobody's taken anything from the vaults so what we're talking about is new stuff...music...new cities, so yes, we're totally open.
They can contact us, they can call The Doors Office 310-274-8471 and call up and say "I've got a cassette...my dad went to this show and recorded it...and - maybe we can work something out because it's important that everybody has as much as possible, that's available. Nobody's going to get whacked over the head or any attorneys or any kind of things like that, we're not angry with anybody. We just want to get as much material as possible. We're interested in everything."

Interesting that one because as far as we are aware nobody ever took them up on their offer. Nowadays they have the disadvantage of having a completely discredited liar for a manager and the question of trust will be at the forefront of any taper dealing with The Doors. The Matrix farce a perfect example of the incompetence and duplicity of Doors management today. Jeff Jampol is someone I would not entrust my rubbish bag to let alone a bootleg I had taped at a concert. The man is an utter liar and has been exposed on both the Densmore forum and the Doors official forum as exactly that. Several times Until The Doors can show that they are people who can be trusted then I doubt we will see much from this area released under The Doors banner. The Matrix is supposedly one that has been completed but Jeff Jampol has told so many lies about this that fans will believe these things when they see them. This disreputable arce of a man has recently announce Matrix would be put back to 2013 as The Doors have a lot of leeching from the 40th anniversary of Jim's death to deal with first. Considering how many lies this idiot has told in the past that likely seals the death knell for this release. As long as a maggot of a liar like Jeff Jampol eats into the apple that is The Doors we will see little of worth and plenty that is not surface under The Doors name. As long as The Doors are thought of as a brand to be exploited don't expect too much for the loyal long term Doors fan base. Jampol has said that his priority is attracting new fans. Which at first glance seems noble but it is this new fan base he seeks to exploit with the regurgitation of endless re releases with the odd new addition. LA Woman 40 year mix will soon be there along with the endless other LA Woman mixes we have already been sold. It's sad that the legacy Danny Sugerman did so much to protect now comes under the auspices of such an utterly detestable liar as Jeff Jampol.

I came across some old topics on-line from way back in 2002, (prior to the tribute act), where knowledgeable "Live" show Doors fans were posting. Of course the postings mentioned all these "new" live Doors shows that would be coming available in the next fews years through BMR. I think we all know of the existence of "The Doors Innercircle" website which at one time was offering $$ in the name of the "Doors" to people who had "live" shows for sale. The wording on that site was very similar to that which I posted at the start of this topic by Bruce Botnick.
After we lost Danny Sugerman, his vision was sabotaged and the label changed it's name to BMA. What started out in the press releases as an internet record label where Doors fans could download shows from the official site, ended up with cds being distributed through Rhino Handmade which is a division of Time Warner who bought Elektra/Asylum. As mentioned before, Rhino would take pre-orders for cds which were to be released by a certain date as publicized in the adverts. Many people ordered these cds but it took months for them to receive their purchases. Rumor had it that the pre-orders were designed to obtain enough money to press the cds which in and of its self is wrong.
At the time Danny, who was in ill heath was doing everything he could to resolve the problem unfortunately, he was on a one man mission and even thou the orders began being shipped from Rhino they were still released beyond advertised dates. With all of Danny's other duties he still made time to consult with Doors fans through regular updates on-line where he tried his best to make things "right."
In later years, we all witnessed the "Matrix" fiasco, of which Alex speaks about that ended up with Doris' deletion of the Ask Questions Thread.
After 2002 all the publicity was shifted to the tribute act which gained its own category on the Official Forum. We have covered these years through other threads and on other boards so I will not bore you once again with the details. The bottom line is a control freak had become co-manager of the Doors which naturally resulted in another control freak in the capacity of "Super Adminstrator" to run the Liz Lounge and from this point forward everything has went down hill. The latter, "Super Admin" has become scarce after his actions towards Doors fans were posted in public on the John Densmore Forum.
Doris is still around putting his stamp on the Doors name by a method he calls Branding? Come on Doris, whats wrong with you? You don't make a Brand out of the Doors name. It would seem you don't understand the concept of what the Doors were all about and that's too bad because if you did you would know that "Branding" is unexceptionable. If you need a lesson in history, just leave your bias opinion outside the Door, (pun intended) and take notice of the advice fans who came before you have offered. All you have to loose is your more of your ever shrinking fan base.
In fact on a personal note, every time I hear or read of the word branding where the Doors are concerned, I see that scene in Jack Ass 2 where Bam gets his ass branded with an iron formed in the shape of a dick.
Speaking of advice, I can remember a topic on the John Densmore's forum where the subject was "censorship, banning and editing" practices that lead to "cleansing" on the Doors Official Message Forum at that time known as the Lizard Lounge.
A few of us spelled out the message hoping Doris would take our words into consideration but unfortunately he failed to heed our warning. By the continued editing, banning, and general cleansing of the official forum Doors fans would loose interest. Especially those fans who had put a lot of time and effort into their research just to see their postings end up in the "archive" bin. Boys and Girls there was no "archive" bin for these postings, they were deleted along with the poster. How do I know this, because John Densmore himself looked into this matter which was a part of Doris having to personally apologize, in public to Alex.
Here we are four months into 2011 and the same "cleansing" methods are still being handed out on that forum as there is a current thread that attests to such practices.
I have heard the old excuse, we are trying to obtain new fans for the base...well, you have obtained new fans for the base over the years and those new fans like the old fans have been censored, banned and had their postings edited. Any new fans who have come on the that forum surely see what is happening and has been happening for the last 7 years and of course they get discussed, leave and don't come back.
All of you who are reading this posting from the official forum, we see the guest count every day for this place and you don't have to join us as a member just to read the postings here but it would be nice if you took a membership into consideration.
