Philadelphia Arena August 4th 1968 PNWhen The Doors arrived in Philadelphia their latest single HILY had hit #1 the day before. In the middle of the opening number 'When The Music's Over Morrison stops to berate some fans baiting a Philly cop. "Oh leave the poor kid (the cop) alone. He's just doing his job. Just think what would happen. All those criminals and assassins". Methinks Jim was taking the piss. There had already been a small riot in Ohio the night before and New York the night before that. Thankfully we never had to put up with cops at concerts here. It was just to give them a bit of overtime and a chance to push some longhairs about. The Courier Post NJ 3-8-1968 The Morning News, Wilmington Delaware 21-7-1968 The Philadelphia Inquirer Sun PN People were not happy about the running of the concert. And TBH had a point. Out of the bands control and indicative of the way rock concerts were handled in the USA with no control from the actual bands. Peter Grant of Zeppelin would turn that on its head once he got there but bands like The Doors wer at the mercy of promoters that, in general, did not have a clue. 8-8-1968 The Distant Drummer Philadelphia PN Underground music paper.

Actions matter and The Doors will be forever tainted for Miami Dinner Key 6 months earlier. This even affects the band after Jim dies and they try to continue. The publicity prompts the band to sign for an early show thinking that to would sell out. But a mere couple of thousand punters on the night, many only there to see Morrison do something mental, are a disappointment and Jim gives a normal performance much to the chagrin of his audience. 24-8-1969 Philadelphia Inquirer PN THis interview for Downbeat Magazine with Jim took place just before the Philadelphia Arena show. 26-8-1969 Philadelphia Daily News PN 30-8-1969 3-9-1969 Philadelphia Inquirer PN 17-9-1969 18-9-1969 Philadelphia Daily News PN 18-9-1969 20-9-1969 Philadelphia Inquirer PN 20-9-1969 Philadelphia The Evening Bulletin PN 20-9-1969 Philadelphia Daily News 1-10-1969 The Daily Tar Heel NC 25-10-1969 The Distant Drummer Philadelphia PN Underground music paper.
