This is one of my favourites out of the lords and new creatures, which i read again last night.
[glow=red,2,300]The Lords appease us with images. They give us books, concerts, galleries, shows, cinemas. Especially the cinemas. Through art they confuse us and blind us to our enslavement. Art adorns our prison walls, keeps us silent and diverted and indifferent.[/glow]
an amzing account of what has actually happened in our societies and its been occuring for a while now. but jim couldnt have put it down in words better than he d here i reckon. we are surrounded by forms of art that keep us sweet so we can hopefully ignore all the shit the givernments do....."theres a war in iraq" fuck it who cares? we got the new x box game.....lets go and see that new film.....who cares about reality? we are being ade numb to the world and its realities. of course this may be no big conspiracy....they are artists that create them...after all the doors themselves created art that had the ability to distract people from their everyday lifes and pain.... but i think the main warning here, is that we could become apathetic to the world around us, so when something really needs to be done against the fascists that could slowly take over...we just cant be bothered and would rather watch someone live their lives on big fuckin brother, cos we aint got our own lifes...

The Authorities use distraction to keep you from paying close attention to the things that really matter imo.
Indeed Jim was spot on with that quote:)

Don't forget in a later interview (Bob Chorush? John Carpenter?) Jim said that the idea of the lords has become the opposite in his mind, but he didn't elaborate.

perhaps he suddenly thought he was a calaborator to the distracting of the masses! Rick, I think that's a pretty good assesment because he also said at seeing Feast of Friends film that there was a whole bunch of elements going on that he wasn't aware of & he was reacting to them without being concious of them at the time (sorry about the paraphrasing).

do you know what sort of stuff he was recating to on a subconscious level? thing is with bands like the doors and artists like the doors....they do not add to the distraction, they enhance life and even help with life. and they even make us aware of things going on...

We all say things when we are young that on reflection turn out to be bollocks. Jim was a niave young hippy in 1965 living on a roof writing about his view of the world and then after becoming famous he saw that it was all not quite as rosy as he thought and revised that view a bit. He was pragmatic as well as being perceptive.

The interesting thing is that The Lords do not come to power by force, conquest or the will-to-power [as Nietzsche's 'Lords of the Earth' do, a clear influence], but they insinuate themselves by stealth. They draw their strength from our own "sloth and cowardice".

The interesting thing is that The Lords do not come to power by force, conquest or the will-to-power [as Nietzsche's 'Lords of the Earth' do, a clear influence], but they insinuate themselves by stealth. They draw their strength from our own "sloth and cowardice". This is very true and we have seen how The Lords have indeed insinuated themselves by stealth into this story. Jim's band mates are The Lords for me and this bunch have managed to manipulate time and space by means of retooling Doors History to present themselves as the poor victims of Jim Morrison who they portray as an ogre who bullied them and left them in fear causing them to break out in rashes. They have been so traumatised by Jim Morrison they can no longer do any actual work and are left having to live on the pittance brought in by their only ever real occupation. That of knowing someone for a few years who died and became famous. It's such a sad case it makes you want to weep.

Fear the Lords who are secret amoung us. The Lords w/ in us. Born of sloth & cowardice
I am a guide to the labyrinth Come & see me in the green hotel Rm. 32 I will be there after 9:30 p.m.
I will show you the girl of the ghetto I will show you the burning well I will show you strange people haunted, beast-like, on the verge of evolution
-Fear The Lords who are secret among us
The Lords. Events take place beyond our knowledge or control. Our lives are lived for us. We can only try to enslave others. But gradually, special perceptions are being developed. The idea of the "Lords" is beginning to form in some minds. We should enlist them into bands of perceivers to tour the labyrinth during their mysterious nocturnal appearances. The Lords have secret entrances, and they know disguises. But they give themselves away in minor ways. Too much glint of light in the eye. A wrong gesture. Too long and curious a glance.
The Lords appease us with images. They give us books, concerts, galleries, shows, cinemas. Especially the cinemas. Through art they confuse us and blind us to our enslavement. Art adorns our prison walls, keeps us silent and diverted and indifferent.
