It sounds a bit derivative of the doors legacy… the same as the book…. Hence I never did pick it up… I called into a radio show once to ask a question and asked him if there were any similarities there between the doors history/rimbaud and the plot of the book- ‘cuz something about the book seemed- dunno, Obvious maybe… he didn’t answer…. Waxed a bit about other stuff….

I agree with your post Alex. You asked "where did they (IMDB) get this from?
I found a fan site for Brad Renfro who is suppose to be starring in this movie and the statement associated with the Riders movie is almost exactly the same as appeared on IMDB. Of course this statement is over a year old dated in 2003.
UPDATE (2/9/03): Well, not only is Brad involved in a new project, but this one actually sounds somewhat interesting and may earn him some lead exposure. The project is called Riders on the Storm, and if that reminds you of The Doors' song, it should. The film is being directed by Ray Manzarek, the Doors' keyboard player. It is based on a screenplay co-written by Manzarek and Chris Kobin, which is apparently inspired by a real-life adventure involving Manzarek and legendary Doors rocker Jim Morrison in the 1960s.
The story follows three UCLA film students (presumably Brad and co-star Edward Furlong will play two of these) on a road trip seeking "knowledge, power, and peyote." The students run into a turf war between white supremacists and a band of Native American shaman. Sounds...interesting. Peter Stormare (Brad's Happy Campers co-star) also has a lead role. Riders on the Storm will begin production this summer, shooting for a December release. Source: www.angelfire.com/tn/bradrenfro/There is also a statement about the Riders movie from the Tim Sullivan website. This statement is dated from April 2004.
As much as I LOVE horror, there are many other types of stories within me that I want to tell. As I said earlier, I always loved the rock group KISS. But I also am a huge Doors fan. I always say KISS represents my guts, The Doors represent my soul. To that end, I have co-written a script with Ray Manzarek of The Doors called RIDERS ON THE STORM. It's a road trip movie that combines EASY RIDERS with THE SEARCHERS. Ray will direct. I will produce. Eddie Furlong, Brad Renfro and Jay Gillespie will star.

Ummmmm......another comparison with the 1969 Easyrider movie? I wonder if Tim Sullivan ever listened to the interview Howard Smith did with Jim Morrison back in 1970? As I recall Smith compared Easyrider with a script that Jim mentioned he and Michael McClure were writing based on the Adept book.
I couldn't agree with you more Alex....Manzarek is trying to write himself into Jim Morrisons' history.....he'll probably do a promotional gig at Jim's grave when the film opens. Disgusting to say the least.

It seems like this along with other projects such as a new Doors album (yeah, right) has fallen to the wayside, maybe R$ay w/ the flack that came in from D21c has reevaluated such projects.

unbelievable! ;D it sounds to me as though he is working on the image that ollies doors movie created. we have all seen the part were all the doors members go of into the desert, get high and jim wanders of into the cave to make mad love to a native american, ok so that bit didnt happen, but the blow job from that large cat happened! maybe ray cant remember what really happened or tell myth from reality since he would have been constantly tripping during that time, he probably thinks it really happened and has led to deluding himself!

I don't think Ray does much that is not deliberate....look at the Paris thing in December 2003....'The Doors have never played Paris before (xept for the Olympia on May 1st 1972) so this will be 'our' debut'....good for the old ticket sales His first movie screenplay was from Jims idea (which by the way I do actually believe) and his second will be based on his and Jim's escapades (which is a damn lie). He links all his stuff to Morrison and it usually bombs..... Thats why he is trying to write Jim out of The Doors equation at the moment 'Jim is dead...get over it'.....he says in nearly every interview...... The guy is sly beyond belief....

E! Entertainment Website - Movie Scoop with Anderson Jones - March 14, 2003
Storm Watch: Founding Doors member and keyboardist Ray Manzarek has hit the road again on a Doors reunion tour, just as a project that has long been close to his heart finally hits the big screen.
Along with cowriters Tim Sullivan and Chris Kobin, Manzarek drafted a screenplay for Riders on the Storm, a fictional story inspired by the classic tune that melds Easy Rider with The Searchers--sort of an existential western. Sullivan describes it as "a spiritual odyssey about a bunch of college kids who go on a road trip to New Mexico." There, they find themselves caught in a turf war between white supremacists and Native Americans.
Brad Renfro and Edward Furlong, the undisputed bad boys of Hollywood, lead the cast. The pair made the deal soon after catching the Doors' recent concert at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheater.
It's a story Sullivan and his team have been trying to get off the ground for at least five years and, he says, a renewed interest in the Doors, along with Renfro and Furlong's commitment, have knocked down the resistance the project experienced in the past. Lions Gate and Regent are financing the flick, which begins shooting in September under Manzarek's direction www.eonline.com/Reviews/Movies/Scoop/Archive2003/030314b.html

Neither actor has set Hollywood alight so I guess they are both desperate enought o sign up with the 'Ed Wood of the ivories'. Furlong was very good in American History X but the only other notable role was as the whining shit that saved the world in the interminable Terminator 2. It would be nice if it was actually a good film as I am sure ROTS will make an appearance somewhere but Ray has no talent at all as a director so I expect nothing but another cringeworthy effort. I wonder which part of the film Jim suggested to Ray back in 1965...guess we will have to wait for Ray to dream that one up I really would have liked Ray to have made an impact as a director as it would have been cool. But having LHM in my DVD rack I know what a fool he is.......he's good at attacking guys with proven talent but his aspirations fail to measure up to his ability......another straight to DVD straight to obscurity triumph for Ray... maybe for his next trick he could remake HWY;D

I agree with your sentiments Alex. I didn't bother purchasing "Love Her Madly" due to the reviews I have read and after glancing at the commentary on his "Riders" project it seems we can expect more of the same if and when his newest effort is released. I Located a message board attached to the "Riders On The Storm" movie page at Internet Movie Database. The last update on the production of this film was Dec 28, 2004. (Mon Aug 23 2004 03:19:52 ) Can anyone tell me if this project is developping or as it been shelved? There's nothing about it on Manzarek's site, and besides, he's enrolled in that D21C stuff, so I guess we'll not see much of this for quite some time... (Tue Dec 28 2004 06:41:05 ) Well, guess this isn't happening after all. Renfro and Furlong are gone from the cast list, Manzarek is on the road with D21C, are there still doubts about it?... I know it surprises you but I recommend the Love Her Madly DVD to anyone..... Firstly it gives Doors fans an insight into the non-talent of Ray Manzarek film-maker but secondly the extras are bloody excellent. Watch the movie with the commentary on and its great....you don't have to listen to the shite dialogue or follow the pitiful non-plot and Ray and the producer give a truly entertaining commentary. Add to this Rays 20 minute wander round Venice as well as Manzarek/McClure doing two excellent numbers. The DVD is pretty good...its just the film that is total arcewipe!

NEWS FLASH:
The Internet Movie Database has deleted all references to Manzareks' Riders On The Storm movie. The associated web pages as well as the message board for the film have been erased.
Google Search:
Riders on the Storm (2005)
Riders on the Storm, Directed by Ray Manzarek Writing credits ... Discuss this movie with other users on IMDb message board for Riders on the Storm (2005) ... www.imdb.com/title/tt0350056/ - 39k
Under Ray Manzareks' personal IMDB page the title for this movie has also been removed.
www.imdb.com/name/nm0544456/
Its not a real good sign when the IMDB wipes out all the references to a movie that has been supposedly in production for over a year.

so is ROTS gonna be released? cant be arsed reading all the posts..... is furlong in it? and if so how did ray get him to play a part init? the latest film i have seen him is is american history X, which is a great film. but most of all i really want to watch it to see how bad rays directorship is again or perhaps love her madly was so bad because of the extreme low budget of the film?
