The Worst Doors Book Ever-Dark Star by Dylan JonesDylan qualifies for our coveted “ Doyle of the month” award with this abysmal effort from 1991. His researcher must have been a two year old because this garbage is full of childish speculation ( that even NME wouldn`t touch) that has to be read to be believed. His ludicrous captions had us in fits -check out page 177. “ during the recording of “L.A Woman”, Morrison didn`t care anymore and his mask was beginning to drop. His eyes told it all”. ( this next to a photo that is years earlier than that session) With the text nicked from other peoples hard work and his own ill informed view on Morrison and The Doors this book becomes more laughable with each turn of the page. Where did you get this crap from the “Ladybird book of dead rock-stars.” But the real cracker that sums up how stupid this book and its author really are is on page 46 in the “Los Angeles” chapter. On this page our hero proudly proclaims “the first known picture of The Doors performing live taken in L.A in late 65” Yes- live in Steve Paul`s well known L.A club “The Scene” (it`s in New York you dickhead and from a 1967 gig) Bad writing is not a crime (look at me) but to try to pass this off as a serious examination of the complex world that was Jim Morrison and instead reducing him to the level of an out– take from Oliver Stone`s insane ramblings is an insult to Jim and Doors fans everywhere. And it cost me £17 you bastard! Scorpywag rating - minus 10 absolute bollocks P46/47 This shows that Jones did not have a bloody clue what the hell he was talking about. Any rock writer who was writing about the 60s surely would know about The Scene club. It was hardly a small backwater dive but one of the most famous New York clubs of the era. So it was hardly LA and certainly not 1965. Only a know nothing idiot would say it was.
