when you play the doors, how does it make you feel?
when i first started listening to them it captured me in a transe. if played at the right moment it still takes me off into a wonderland, listening to jims voice, the music, the words. i imagine what it would have been like to be alive at the time and watch them in concert. something most of us have never been able to do.
its is magical, and for those of us under the spell, there is no escape...

when you play the doors, how does it make you feel? Exhalted! Really, it depends on my mood and the situation. It can make me cry sometimes. Or just leave me thoughtful and lost into some other dimension. Some songs make me happy and alert. Others make me calm. Most of all it gives me a feeling of union, understanding and and uniqueness.

Bugger of a question that.....at best Transcended which is a big word for you people in Manchester I know but it means awe inspired....at worst seriously pissed off... Thier music is on another plane of conciousness and considering we had guys like Cream, King Crimson and Floyd knocking around in the late 60s early 70s that says a lot. Sometimes listening to 'The End' or 'When The Musics Over' takes you places you can only dream of......on the flip side 'You Make Me Real' makes me wanna puke..... I have heard hundreds and hundreds of bands in over 40 years of listening to rock music and only The Doors makes me feel passionate enough to want to blather on to a bunch of mad fuckers on the internet...... Nuff said!

All of the above!!!!! I have so many different feelings when I listen to the Doors, depending on what mood I'm in!!!!! There is another feeling I get from Jim's voice which actually starts in my spine!!!!! I think that how it progresses may be a little too pornographic to write here................but I'm game if you are!!!!!! I think it's something to do with the tone of his voice and how deep he sings 'cos the same thing hapeens with another deep-voiced singer who I'm not particularly a fan of!!!!! Could somebody call me a doctor please?!

"I have heard hundreds and hundreds of bands in over 40 years of listening to rock music and only The Doors makes me feel passionate enough to want to blather on to a bunch of mad fuckers on the internet......"
Great explaination, Alex. As you say cheers, mate. The Doors are the only band I have ever researched and extensively spoken about with people on the internet. I started out with a Yahoo group, with the intention of sharing the info I had collected over the years with other fans. Back when I started collecting Doors music, articles, etc....the band was a mysterious enity that asked its listeners to dig alittle deeper, go to the next level, open the doors of your mind, (pun intended).
Jim Morrison's lyrics taught me to explore the bounds of reality and in a sense guided me to search for my own freedom and truth. It's too bad we are so indated with laws and restrictions that bind us these days. Hopefully the world will come together forging ahead for a lifetime of peace for the generations that follow us.
The Official Doors website makes me sad at the direction it has taken as I feel it doesn't express the true nature of the original concept of the band. But hey, that's just my opinion which doesn't account for shit.
All is not lost. Through this message board Alex has once again enabled the true concept of The Doors to be kept alive.

You know how I feel, because you've all said it yourselves! I agree with everything you've said! I'm not good with words like "transcended" so I'll put it simply.....
The Doors fucking ROCK!

It is amazing what the music and the sound of Jim's voice can do. It is amazing just the last 2 weeks 3 incidences with doors songs happened. OK I'm riding down the highway its dark and I'm just in one of those moods, the old man was being testy that night so i just sat in the passenger seat staring out the window at the starry night, and what should come on the radio but "People are strange" it just fit my mood perfect then it got even more ironic, when i told my best friend this she actually got chills. a few days later I had caught my old man on the phone with a female i despise, well after things got calmed down he wanted to kiss my ass and take me to dinner all these feeling of hatred and resentment were flowing though my mind and i was contemplating leaving him for good, and guess what came on the radio... break on through to the other side, while earlier that day before i had caught him i read my horoscope and it said basically that he is holding me back, and i need to break free, well i am trying to get started with a writing career and he is very non supportive! well the next day i am alone in the car all these thoughts in my mind running wild still debating on leaving him. love me two times came on just then and man i know it has got to be Jim fucking with me, letting me hear what i need to hear so i can make informed decisions about where I'm taking my self. These are just the last few days, this happens all the time and i just have so many other little connections,we are spiritual as well as human beings and some time what we need all along is right under our feet but we lack the time and patience it takes to find something so simple and significant! ;D

One song that really leaves me feeling kind of sad and calm... in a good way.. The last track on "American Prayer" The CD calls it "Feast Of Friends" but on the record, the last four tracks are all part of a song "American Prayer"
