Doors Box Sets– good value or bollocks
You probably think its funny `cos I ordered my copy a month prior to its release but regardless we are going to take a critical look at both efforts and ask “worthwhile or big con”? DOORS BOX SET— Presentation wise it`s very good. The brochure is superb and is nicely dedicated to Paul A Rothchild. Good start but what about the content A bit haphazard the way it`s set out with no discernable rhyme nor reason( bit like our site –ED) such as date, session, out-take or live. The exception being the New York disc which is quite good.( Though the sound quality should have been better). Most of the content is reasonable even though 99% of it is available to those of us that buy bootlegs. Our fave is the superb “Adagio” and the cool jazz version of “Queen of the highway”. No it`s the fourth disc that gets on our tits. Didn`t anyone think that the only people who would buy this box would be die hard fans (or maybe they didn`t give a toss as long as we coughed up our hard earned £60.) and whilst I`m more than interested what the guys favourite tracks are I don`t want to bloody own them again. AP Scorpywag rating –First 3 discs 7/10 worthwhile, Disc 4— 2/10 Bloody big rip off. ( Check out FREE’S new box set to see how it should be done.)

The accompanying booklet was good with some new information regarding the songs. Nothing of any real import sadly and another opportunity to do something special. But no, they would rather just rake in the money and fuck over the fans with their lies and bullshit. I paid £60 for this which is a lot of money for that time./font]

## 7 track promo sampler in custom digipack sleeve featuring the best and rarest unreleased tracks from the 4XCD Box Set.
It should be noted that the version of "Whiskey, Mystics And Men" on this promo sampler has a different mix than the version included in the box set (so it is not a "selection" from the box set but an early mix, different from the one that was released in the box set). The difference is the addition of vocal overdubs (men choir singing "ta da daa") on the box set version, while on the promo sampler there is only Jim's vocal trackStore counter display

After being promised that the Box Set would be unique The Doors released it as 2 double CDs at half the price of the Box Set.
But what really showed the greed of this band was when they released 'Essential Rarities' which was another Best Of BUT from the Box Set, with an unreleased track fans did not have which made them have to buy stuff they already had to access this song. They tried this trick several times after Jampot became manager but he bears no blame for the Box Set. Pretty shitty thing to do but they showed their true colours here and worse was to come in the new century.

Very few reviewers dare call out The Doors for their criminal 4th disc of band chosen songs best of bullshit. This a perfect example. The idea that this is somehow to bring newer fans or people on the shelf is so ridiculous I could shit myself laughing at such a notion. The only people who bought this Box were like me. People who would (then maybe but not now) pay money if they had released a disc of Jim farting ROTS through a comb. The 4th disc was an insult to people who had supported the band up to this point with their hard earned cash. A lazy 'can't be arced' to put anything worthwhile on 4 so let's just stick some shit they already have as they are too dumb to complain. And indeed most of us were. Took me a few years to whine about it once my Scorpywag fanzine appeared.
The Box wasn't perfect 'WSY short version fuck up', and much was already on various poor quality bootlegs, but it was quite amazing to hear this in decent quality. WE did not know yet that New York was just another one of Rothchild's cut and paste jobs but it sounded wonderful then. We did not know we would be soon bombarded with various boxes selling us the same old shit with a single rare track to make us buy. We did not know how shameless this trio of greedy fuckwits could actually be. But we soon learned.
