The Doors went through four distinct phases in thier career: Acid Indecision The Blues In The Shadows producing eight albums that could be construed as two examples of each. Most ignore the two albums made after Morrisons death even though they had some merits but which is the best album from each of the four periods in Doors history? AcidIndecisionIn The ShadowsI have modified things slightly to include the post Jim albums if anyone wants to express an opinion on them....

for me LA woman had to be the most bluest, with tunes like cars hiss by my window etc i mean you had roadhouse blues in morrison hotel, but over all it has to be LA woman ;D

L.A. Woman, Morrison Hotel has a great first side (god what an old reference in the age of CD's), but side two, starting with Land Ho! (YIKES!) is spotty at best while L.A. is consistent in quality.

Oddly enough I think MH just beats LAW when it comes to being bluesy.....LAW is a better album but MH/HRC just nicks it for the blues.... Probably due to the aftermath of TSP would make anyone feel blue:D

It took me half my life to learn to appreciate The Blues, being the stubborn, one track minded, refuse-to-listen woman that I am. Well, better late than never I guess. Must say I go for L.A Woman here, as much as I love Morrison Hotel, when it comes to blues (and I am still quite new to both the blues and the Doors) the overall impression of L.A Woman is that it has the most bluesy sound.

My cat loves Cars hiss by my window, Jim sounds like a meowing cat on that song and everytime I play it, my cat starts to answer him with her own meows!

LA Woman for me too!!! It was also the first Doors album I got on vinyl too!!! The only one I have on CD is a Greatest Hits. I won't buy anything on CD if I know it was first on vinyl. It took me ages to get them all, but I just have always prefered vinyl to CD. It's all in the crackle!!!

How much are you paying for these crackly records? If theyre any good there shouldnt be "crackle" It took me 6 months too get all 9 albums and all are near mint and make zero crackle except on the very outter band when you first put the needle down.
Look on ebay. Most re-issues are 5-10 bucks.

Alot of my records were bought in charity shops for between 50pence and £2!!!!!

I have alot of record albums and thankfully most are in excellent shape. I still have a turntable and sometimes I give them a listen. I remember Mick Jagger commenting on the transfer of vinyl recordings to CD's. He mentioned that although the transfer wasn't bad it would never be an exact duplicate of the original recording. I agree. I can tell the difference of CD's that were digitally transferred from vinyl.
Do you notice any difference?
I have a few vinyl Doors bootlegs one in particular that comes to mind is a recording of the 1967 Danbury show. The record label is white and gives no track listing just the words: "Live At Danbury High - The Backdoor Men" OPD-6710.
The front of the album sleeve is medium blue and in black letters it says: "Fast Times At Danbury High" followed by a photo of Jim Morrison with the caption "Teenage Heart-Throb" and a date of October 17, 1967.
The back cover of the album sleeve has a large photo of The Doors playing in a Frankfurt, Germany town square and in medium blue letters a track listing followed by "Danbury High School - Danbury, CT. 10/17/67"
I bought this Danbury album in L.A. at a record convention in the mid-80's. I can't remember exactly but I think the cost was approximately $25-$30.
I buy used CDs quite frequently at a record store where I live. I've found the savings can be substantial.
I have all of The Doors releases including Morrison Hotel and the L.A. Woman on vinyl. I don't play them anymore as I bought them at the time of their releases back in the mid-60's - early 70's. I replaced all the albums with CDs but I hold onto the vinyl for sentimental reasons.
I liked the direction The Doors took with Morrison Hotel and L.A. Woman. In my opinion I always looked forward to The Doors branching out to a new direction after successfully completing two blues albums back to back. We know now there would be no more albums made by the four original members but its interesting to speculate what would have been released after L.A. Woman.

The only Doors album I have on CD is a Greatest Hits one!!!!! I never buy CD if I know I can get it on vinyl!!! I don't spend a fortune on mint condition vinyl 'cos I'd be afraid of scratching it if I played it!!!!!!! So I buy good condition but not perfect records. My record player is a 1964 one too. It's 15 years older than me!!!!!!!! I only got a CD player a couple of years ago!!!

Fortunately I purchased a new turntable back in '87 at DOW Electronics in San Diego. It's a Murantz gold, single disc turntable. They were clearing out their inventory so I got it for a great price. The only problem I have with it is obtaining needle replacements. It has to be ordered and it takes a few weeks to get one. One replacement cartridge is about $50 which is more than I paid for the turntable new.
I have about 1500 record albums. Someday I hope to replace the best of what I have with CD's. I'm slowly replacing them. I have replaced all of the Doors vinyl with CD's.
The Doors are my fav band but I like other bands as well. My taste in music has evolved towards the heavier side as Rick and Alex can tell you. I find that evolution in musical tastes can be a rewarding experience at least in my opinion.
