Just got he 45 for the You Need Meat B-Side. Some things worth noting... the title track fades out during the solo!! How lame is that? They could have fit the extra 20 seconds on the 45 easily.. but.. whatever... i guess having less allowed for higher volume and thus... a better music to surface noise ratio.
The b side you need meat is cooler too... then the wierd scenes version. It sounds cleaner... i think the higher rate of speed gives higher fidelity.. a cleaner sound... and most notibly... theres a count in!!... uh wun... 2.... wun too three... Wierd Scenes just abruptly jumps into it.
This higher fidelity goes for Tightrope Ride too.. the tightrope ride 45 sounds cleaner then the LP. Any avid vinyl fan knows that. If the OV and FC really are mysteriously lost.. and they went to source it from records... i'd use as many as i could from 45's (NM ones of course)

Fred Baggen did a rather superb 6 CD set for Carnival Dogs Group with all The Doors singles compiled (which he gave away which included a superb booklet and info on the tracks) and it has both of these featured on it....he was kind enough to give me a copy...there are a number of oddities/rarities that feature on Doors singles.....both Tightrope Ride & Ships w/ Sails are slightly different edits to the album versions.....I will send them to Chris for the ftp site.
