i think its pretty disgusting that they rush buried him and gave him a shit little stone...infact it didnt even say anything did it? why couldnt pam, ronay etc etc waited and asked relatives and friends to come over for the funeral and spent a wee bit more money on it....i still find it very strange. Let's face it; most of those connected to Jim in anyway, sad as it is, were either bloodsuckers or too fecked up to give a damn!!!!

There was no stone at all at first Rick and it was years before there was a headstone. I guess once they all realised how much money there was to make out of this guy then it began to dawn on them that it might be worthwhile taking an interest in his grave.......his parents were no different...... I did not notice them rushing over to ensure he had a grave worthy of thier son.......the fake sentiment of these people makes me sick to be honest......a lot of people have gotten rich from this blokes death and the crap they spout is simply a way to keep the money rolling in .....manzarek is obviously the worst for this but Ray is not the only one so its unfair to single him out....... even we the fans have done our fair share of disservice to Morrisons memory so collectively we are all blame for the way the guys memory has been treated....... But saying that we have to take note that he is where he would prefer to be in a graveyard populated by artists and poets so he would be happy to be remembered there than in some theme park grave like Elvis.....

Good Point Alex. I agree. There wasn't any headstone on the grave when I visited Pere Lachaise in March 1980. Someone had placed a piece of stone (probably off another grave) as a marker for Jim. The cement enclosure was there. From what I understand Pamela Courson did a drawing of Jim's plot of how she wanted it to look. All that was accomplished of the drawing was the cement enclosure. I can't at this time remember what book I got this information from, but I will look it up and make another post.
Up until the NOHGOA book came out the only attention the grave got was from fans. After the success of the book, An American Prayer and the use of "The End" by Francis Ford Coppola did the surviving Doors provide a headstone. Correct me if I'm wrong but the video "A Tribute To Jim Morrison" shows the surviving Doors at a dedication to the placement of the headstone in 1981.
The headstone thats on the grave now was put there by Jim's parents following the Oliver Stone movie. Now theres a fence. Whats going to happen next? Maybe the plot totally encased in plexiglass as to keep visitors back.
Its sad to see all the security that exists now days although considering past events at the cemetary it is understandable why it has to be this way. I'm thankful that I got to see the site so long ago when security was non-existent.

its funny how the more popular the doors and jim has got and the more people visiting the grave. somebody certainly doesnt want to look embarresed by the fact that one of rocks greatest legends hasnt even got a headstone on their grave..its disgusting. so the only reason why jim has a grave in the state it is now is down to the fans. if NOHGOA and the films etc hadnt been made and if fans never came in their numbers..then its sounds likely that jim's grave would still be unmarked....
