i couldnt really give one single event as a great tribute to jim...but i think the best tribute is the countless fans who tirelessly support jim, people who would actually start a fight in a pub cos someone called jim a no good drunken, pretentious fat bastard. also the people who are willing to stand up infornt of strangers and friends to recite jim\'s poetry, because it must something personal to them...us doors fan tend to wear our hearts on our sleaves, i know i do. The people who leach of his back to make a profit are not the real tributes.... For those about to rock...we salute you! yea isnt that strange!! i get very offensive when ppl try and say something bad about jim. i know everyone is entitled to their opinions but most of the ppl that say these things have no clue of what they\'re talking about. they no nothing about the man, and that is something that really bugs me!!! we all know jim took alot of drugs we all know he drank too much, but ppl seem to see the negative side of a person more than the good. if i was pope id make jim a saint!!

Thats why I posed the questions......the Morrison Myth that The Doors get rich off is not Honouring the Memory of Jim Morrison....thats the point I am making.....it buys them big houses and nice cars to drive round in but does not do justice to the man himself.....Oliver Stone is NOT the one responsible for the bullshit rock fans come out with about Morrison....but Ray makes sure he gets the blame......in the last 35 years I never noticed Ray Manzarek championing the cause of Jim Morrison the human being..........nor any of the others........ Only the friend of Jim that Manzarek slags off in his book ever tried to tell that story...........we take too much as read in The Doors world and we don't question enough .....we take it for granted that if a Door says it is then IT IS! But it ISN'T! These guys are rich beyond their wildest 1965 dreams because of ONE reason......and they mercilessly exploit that to get even richer......

U KNOW WHEN I WENT TO SEE ROTS IN 2004, I THOUGHT IT WAS AMAZING, BUT YOU KNOW THE MORE I GOT TO THINKING ABOUT IT AFTERWARDS, I REALISED WHAT A DISGRACE IT WAS. I THINK MY ENITIAL REACTION WAS THAT I HAD JUST GOT TO SEE 2 ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE DOORS PERFORM, SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS GREAT BUT THEN THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT IAN THE MORE I BEGAN TO REALISE THAT IT WAS WRONG. IF I WAS ROBBIE OR RAY, I WOULD NOT WANT TO PERFORM \'DOORS\' MUSIC WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN THE PPL WHO CREATED IT IN THE FIRST PALCE, IE, JIM AND JOHN. I MEAN, REALLY WHY WOULD YOU. IF RAY AND ROBBIE ARE TRYING TO REMINCE ABOUT THE PAST THEN THIS ISNT THE WAY TO DO IT. THERE ARE EASIER WAYS TO KEEP JIMS MEMORY AND THE DOORS MUSIC ALIVE AND THAT IS BY THE FANS DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST.................................. STILL BEING DOORS FANS. A TRUE DOORS FAN WILL ALWAYS BE A DOORS FAN, AND I AM ONE OF THEM!!!!

Frank Lisciandro is for me the epitome of Jim Morrison's 'friend'.... This guy took the trouble to write two books giving a view of Jim Morrison NEVER before seen and then went on to bring The Doors world James Douglas Morrison The Poet with Wilderness and The American Night. he was (last I heard) even trying to secure a deal to release HWY and Feast of friends which are the only examples of Jim Morrison film-maker in existence. I think Frank is guilty of making money off Morrison as the rest of them. He may have done it with more tact and taste but he profited just like the rest of them. However, I did enjoy his books and I'm glad he did them. It is sad that the rest of The Doors with all their money can't do some kind of tribute for him in LA. They could buy a building and create a tribute to Jim Morrison and the Doors. Sort of like a museum of artifacts. Have pictures, books and video. People could visit and learn about The Doors and Jim Morrison. They probably could even make a profit. I don't understand them. They're old. How much money do they need. You can't take the money with you. Do something for the fans. Hey Alex, I like your tribute story about going to the cemetery. That's pretty cool to share with the rest of us. I remember when I first visited the grave. It's was the first thing I wanted to do when I got to Paris. I just felt so happy to finely get to Paris and visit the grave. Just a feeling of happiness. Other people around me were crying, and here I was just as happy as I could be. I mark it down as one the coolest thing I got to do in my life. I would agree with Jym about all the people Jim has influenced because of his life. Can you imagine all the people who lives that may have turned around because they got into Jim Morrison. Jim may have had his bad sides, but he also had his good qualities. He was very intelligent, well read, love to question authority, was a true artist. He like to look at the darker side of life. Expose the world around us for what it truly was, not something portrayed on TV. I got into him because of his good qualities. He had an amazing life. He was the hero we live through, who's influence, helped a lot of people through their lives.

To be honest I am not against the profiting from Jim's memory as such but simply the way these people profit from it. Frank made sure he got a lot of photos of Morrison during his friendship with him and yes he made money from the poetry and book side.....but he championed the cause of the real Jim Morrison not just went down the road of 'Jim got drunk and pissed himself and was a real crazy guy'.....he was not always getting drunk and pissing himself and he was not always a crazy guy.....Frank did a lot to dispel that myth so I do give him respect for that. I have more time for the friends and acquaintances Frank introduced me too than a million books or interviews with Ray Manzarek. And Gemma I can't really agree that Ray and Robby should not play Doors music unless John or Jim were involved as they were each 25% of that music and they have been playing it ever since Jim died....but I agree with what you say otherwise as its the way that music is played. The last four years have been deeply offensive to me and I have not been shy in saying so. This was the catalyst that opened my eyes a bit to what had been there before them for decades. Hence this thread......... My suggestion when the dorks first made an appearance was a show with all 3 Doors playing the music and doing some of the singing featuring poets such as Patti Smith and Mike McClure reading Jim's poetry a la American Prayer and having guest vocalists in the vein of Storytellers. Calling it a Tribute To Jim Morrison & The Doors would have probably avoided 90% of the nastiness that ensued. But it would not have made as much money..........

If any of you have a bit of your own/or a favourite bit of someone Else's poetry you want to leave here to commemorate 40 Years since Jim Morrison's passing....feel free to add it to this thread.I will start the ball rolling with a poem I have been leaving on the fence at Jim's grave on July 3rd for about 6 or 7 years now. Written by the legendary Doors fan Michael White aka 'Moses Jones', it is the best bit of fan poetry I've ever seen. He wrote it 10 years ago for my July 2001 issue of my Scorpywag Doors fanzine and I began leaving it at Jim's grave a couple of years later as well as leaving copies in La Ren bar. It is a profound piece of prose that struck a chord with me as soon as I read it and as it was in tune with my own ideas about what The Doors should be about 40 years later I present it here as the thread opener. 4 JDM.Mad America hurt him into poetry Mad America would not get him Portrait of the artist as a young detaineeat the time of it's capture no one knew he would be the father of a great nation
getting out of town free to run in a new wood
checks no cash plastic people what I have to show you cannot be bought sold traded or exchanged
'I'm lonely' he declared in public often to capacity facilities
and they attempted to capture him again
far from home one final attempt he made a final entry
on it's cover he wrote Paris JournalMichael White

Here are three I quite like.....I used them in my articles about my visits to Pere Lachaise which is an incredible and beautiful place to wander around on your own. Darryl Read read the last one at the 2005 TIM poetry reading we had in Paris for Jim. It was a request from me! 'Are not the joys of morning sweeter Than the joys of night And are the vigorous joys of youth Ashaméd of the light?'A bit of Blake 'Send me your flowers, of your december Send me your dreams, of your candy wine I got just one thing I can’t give you Just one more thing of mine'Mazzy Star “My pulse beats your heart life, I am the dark angel, and I come from the last poets land, We have deep soul here, We are winters angels. Thirty birds shall call on you in deep dream, Marsh gods will unfold scenes. Come all that are right, across soil and sand, I am the dark angel, We are the last poets from the summer lands.”Darryl Read
