Thanks for posting the FSU film clip. I didn't know it existed.
Interesting. Do you think this film could be from Jim's days in the Drama Dept at FSU where they could have used him as an actor for this film?
Thanks again for posting it.

Film found of Jim Morrison as an FSU student
TALLAHASSEE -- Before The Doors' Jim Morrison made it as a rock singer, he wanted to make films.
Now, 34 years after his death, the state of Florida has found and restored what it believes to be the earliest film of Morrison, shot in the early 60s when he attended Florida State University.
It was discovered when the Department of State went through 1,000 films in its archive and may have gone unnoticed if Jaime Madden hadn't noticed a familiarity in the way young Morrison was standing in part of the brief clip.
``He said, 'Oh my god! This is Jim Morrison!''' said Jody Norman, supervisor of the Bureau of Archives and Records Management. ``It really tells a lot about an archivists' duty to pay attention to detail.''
In the FSU promotional film, Morrison is seen walking to a mailbox and opening a letter. He stops suddenly with his leg thrust forward as a voiceover says, ``We regret to inform you that we are unable to accept your application.''
A little while later, Morrison is in a university office, dressed in a jacket and tie and questioning authority.
``We would like to accept you,'' Morrison is told. ``Indeed, we'd like to offer more courses, more sections, but we just don't have the space _ that together with the lack of professors.''
``But what happened?'' Morrison asks. ``How come my parents, and the state and the university didn't look ahead?''
Morrison later dropped out of FSU to attend the University of California Los Angeles film school.
The clip was discovered last year among films WFSU _ a PBS station operated by the university _ donated to the state in 1989 and was recently posted to the state's film archive Web site after being digitally converted. It will air on VH1 this Friday.
``To see that this may very well be the very first video footage of Jim Morrison just shows you we have such a rich history in our state,'' said Secretary of State Glenda Hood, who said she was a Doors fan. ``Isn't it exciting to know that he is part of Florida State University history and part of Florida history and now people can experience this?''

Jim Morrison Was Nerdy!
Film Clip Gives New Look at Rock Icon Jim Morrison By Jim Loney MIAMI (Reuters)
Florida historians have discovered a 40-year-old film clip of a clean-cut Jim Morrison that will give fans a different view of the Doors singer before his wilder days as a drug-using rock legend who drank hard and died young.
The 1964 black-and-white public relations film, shot at Florida State University (FSU) shows a nerdy-looking Morrison, a rock bad boy who died in 1971 at 27 years old, acting the part of a young man whose university application has been rejected.
The 16-minute video has Morrison among wholesome scenes of college life, parades and football, a sharp contrast to his image as a long-haired, leather-clad rebel poet accused of exposing himself and simulating a sex act at a Miami concert in 1969.
"It's incredible. He's so clean-cut and soft-spoken," said Jody Norman, archives supervisor at the State Library and Archives of Florida, and a Doors fan.
The Web site ifilm.com, which features video of all kinds, posted the clip under the heading "Jim Morrison: College Dork."
In the film, the Florida native plays a dejected would-be university student who reads a rejection letter from a school and then earnestly questions a school administrator as to why he can't go to college.
"But what happened? How come my parents and the state and university didn't look ahead?" he said.
The Doors were one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s whose hits included "Light My Fire" and "Riders on the Storm." They broke up a few years after Morrison died.
DIED OF LIKELY OVERDOSE IN PARIS
He was found dead in the bath of his Paris apartment on July 3, 1971, apparently of a lethal mix of alcohol and drugs. The French coroner's verdict of death by natural causes and his hurried burial sparked cover-up theories for years.
Norman said the film was among many turned over by FSU to the state archives and contained no identification or credit for Morrison, who would have been around 20 years old when it was shot. He was spotted by a sharp-eyed archivist who was reviewing the films. "We know he was at FSU for a period of time and he did some acting when he was there," Norman said.
"It preserves some historical backdrop and background for some people who have made the state of Florida ... what we are today."

By all accounts this film has made quite a splash and has been mentioned in numerous websites of newspapers around the US and even made Miami TV stations. As my friend Darkstar mentions on her Morrison Highway Forum this 90 second snippet of Jim Morrison age 20 and just another student has gotten much much more publicity and interest than his film school buddies 90 minute pile of puke Love Her Madly...... That says a lot dontcha think?

Yes it is a fact that a little 34 year old film clip has gotten more press coverage in the last couple of days than either of Ray Manzarek's films, "Love Her Madly" and/or "Riders On The Storm." The film clip is making its rounds in the media due to Reuters and the Associated Press. By 8:00am EST (US) the story had reached 65 different news services including printed form and television coverage. The Flordia Secretary of State, Glenda Hood is a fan as she adds her opinion to the Political Gateway News: "To see that this may very well be the very first video footage of Jim Morrison just shows you we have such a rich history in our state,'' said Secretary of State Glenda Hood, who said she was a Doors fan. ``Isn't it exciting to know that he is part of Florida State University history and part of Florida history and now people can experience this?'' Political Gateway Special Report www.politicalgateway.com/news/read.html?id=3161Hopefully the release of this film clip in such a broad area including the saturation in the Florida news may joggle some FSU classmates into telling more stories of Jim's residence in Florida. The most important element out of all the news coverage is the fact that after 34 years the media is pointing out the fact that even though Jim was a rock star his first goal was to make films. Here's a list of additional sources covering this story: Houston Cronicle Sun-Sentinel (Florida) Xtra MSN News - New Zealand Ireland On-Line Political Gateway WPLG - Channel 10 News CBS News ABC News The Age News Australia Tuscaloosa News Sarasota Herald-Tribune Keralanext - India Lakeland Ledger Austrailan Broadcasting Co. (TV) BBC (TV) WINK - TV South West Florida Gainesville Sun (Florida) Irish Examiner Miami Herald (Morrison Lives In FSU Film) Boston Herald Monterey County Herald Rolling Stone From various reports it can concluded that this film has been around for many years and its appearance at this date and time was due to a digital transfer enabling the film to be viewed through internet sources. When maximim exposure to a news story is what is sought after it pays off to get it to Reuters and/or the Associated Press as the results of coverage can be limitless. See what word of mouth can do. Sara, as usual your posts are chock full of information, man you do your research! Does Miami count as being part of that rich history? Maybe we should ask Jeb Bush.

You made an excellent point, Jym. Maybe after all the years of signing petitions to get Jim Morrison a pardon in Miami Jeb Bush may now pay attention to the possibilty of additional revenues to the State of Florida due to the mass increase in news coverage surrounding a 34 year old film clip. Thus, paving the way for Jim's record to be purged from the Florida court system.
Whats the old saying, money talks and bullshit walks, well, just think of the tourist attraction the State of Florida could gain by adding Jim's name to the list at the Chamber Of Commerce.
Just a thought.
