For me it has to be FOF as i personally think it is not bad for the day and jim and his buddies did try and they made a decent effort and has some pretty cool scenes my faves are the Not to touch the earth and Moonlight Drive sequences.
But have to say if screened today it would be limited to the arthouse cinema circuit.

I think both efforts rather pitiful especially when you think a lot of money was spent on FOF and all we get is a 40 minute mess...if I had to choose I would choose HWY...not cos its any good as its total garbage but because its a rare glimpse of Jim Morrison having fun with his friends away from the ball and chain fame had become. For me (along than the poetry session from 1970) the most priceless bit of Doors history we fans are aware of.

Im quite nterested to see what Rick thinks of them, i've gave rick a loan of them so it will be good to see what he thinks of them.
I have to defend FOF as they did try and put it out there, i think jim would have made a decent impact on the experimental world of filmmaking though had he lived.

I doubt he would have made an impact other than his celebrity would have given him as he proved with HWY he was not exactly Josef von Sternberg. More Steven Spielberg aged 3 1/2 Just cos he was a legend in music did not mean he would have been any good in film. Look at Ray 40 years on from his masters and all he can come up with is the worst movie of the 21st century 'Love Her madly' which one critic said of 'you will be tempted to blow your brains out after 10 minutes of watching this'......as Ray was the talent in that pair....God only knows what dross Jim would have come out with..... FOF was a terrible effort....all of that great footage and all Jim and frank could come up with was an incomprehensible mess with a studio soundtrack.....if they had put a live soundtrack it would have given it something to praise.....the editing which Jim and frank spent so much time on is a travesty...it makes no sense and was a disaster in strict terms but of course to us Doors fans a vital addition to any Doors fans collection...as history its a treasure as a film its bullshit!

Ah Yes"Love Her Madly"! i gave that a loan of to one of my mates, wonder if i want it back hahaha.
At that time when they made FOF(someone correct me if im wrong) not very many bands put docs of that kind out, think dylan had one out before that"Dont Look Back" and what about the stones"Gimme Shelter" Not a bad group to be in that released stuff at that time imo anyway.
Would be great to see outtakes of both with them on official dvd release of course.

True but the others you mentioned made a half decent effort....The Stones also had made that rock and roll circus thing with bands like Tull and such which was rather good...especially Sympathy For the devil.....BUT The Doors were never able to make anything worthwhile out of the FOF footage and apart from a few minor film festivals (including one in Edinburgh I do believe) it was never of much benefit to the band. They had envisged a cinema release but Jim and franks inability to make anything of the footage put the tin hat on that.....I love both movies but I am a died in the wool Doors fan so of course i do...its my bands history but that still does not alter the fact both efforts are rubbish and the talent behind the making of the film is pretty much nonexistent....

i started to watch FOF the other day before my mate came round to pick me up for going out. and i was enjoying the first bit, although it did certainly seem pertty disjointed...i was enjoying it. but it started to skip and freeze alot at one point, then my mate came. so it may just need a wee clean. as for HWY still aint seen that. but i must put some time aside to watch both. i would like to watch love her madly aswell, just to see how shite it really is

i would like to watch love her madly aswell, just to see how shite it really is This is essential viewing for anybody who advocates thet Ray could have done a better job of The Doors movie than Olly Stone. Watch it first without commentary then with commentary....its a great movie with ray and the producers commentary as you dont have the shite dialogue and the piss poor acting. Special features are great too......its a decent DVD as long as you don't watch the actual movie... To be brutally honest a fucking chimp could have done a better job than Ray!
