Other Voices & Full Circle Out-takes?

The Other Voices album was recorded over a period of three months in a familiar surrounding. the Doors Workshop as they had done with LA Woman. The group produced themselves with the help of longtime engineer Bruce Botnick. The Doors decided who would sing which song with a process of trial and error.
Each song was recorded with both Krieger and Manzarek singing it alone and in various combinations with each other and Densmore. Whoever sounded best would cut a final take. Manzarek wound up doing most lead vocals but Krieger also did a lot of harmony.
Break On Through by Procknichy & Riordan


A very interesting snippet from Break On Through and I wonder if any of those bits of trial and error survive today...I doubt of much interest to many Doors fans as this period in Doors history has been pretty much ignored by fans but there are some interesting aspects that are of historical value.
A version of 'Tightrope Ride' sung by Robby would be interesting as well as hearing John doing backing vocals on songs such as 'Ships w/ Sails' would be nice.
It may well be a piss poor period of the bands history but nevertheless it IS a part of THAT history.
'Tightrope Ride' was deemed worthy to appear on The Doors Box Set so in the days of DVD/A it would not be hard to share any of this that still existed even if only for its curio value.....

Perhaps if The Doors PLC ever get round to releasing the two post-Jim albums any surviving out-takes as well as the gloriously irritating 'Tree Trunk' would be ideal additions to this set.

whoa, i've never thought about outtakes from these albums, i guess it "slipped my mind." but i sorta doubt the Doors have them if they do infact exsist. i recall reading that they don't even have the master tapes of the OV/FC albums. "Tightrope Ride" from the '97 box set is taken from a mint LP copy of OV...but who knows what lurks in the underground. I'd for one would love to hear the Doors, with Jim, rocking out to "Down on the Farm" that's rumored to have been done during the LA Woman sessions

The Morrison version of 'Down On The Farm' has been a rumour for many years and would be amazing to hear although I can envisage Jim sneaking back into The Doors office and burning the tape to ensure it never ever surfaced....Jim always had an eye on history and from what I've read hated that song.

Makes you wonder what other songs from that period Jim sang but did not 'feel'?

yes i heard that too, its too insightful to violence i guess. i cant believe that the doors wouldnt have the master tapes to FC and OV, thats just fucked up. why are they so dissed as albums by doors fans, just cos they aint got jim on em! they aint that bad...well some of the songs atleast are really quite good and have potential.
but lets face it, i couldnt in a million years ever imagine jim singing any of the songs from those albums. so hearing his version of down on the farm would be priceless!

Sure ya can. I can easily imagine him singing "In The Eye Of The Sun" and "Ships With Sials" and "Verdillac" but I'm sure he'd have some better lyrics for the latter.

The first two there seem like theyre right off of LA Woman.

It would be really interesting to know which songs were actually put forward by the other three to Jim during LA Woman sessions that he abjectly refused to sing. Robby is being diplomatic with his comment......Morrison by some accounts was rather scathing about songs like DOTF and I'm Horny I'm Stoned.....I doubt Jim would have touched Verdilac as its a song made for Ray to sing.....Ships w/Sails is a good bet as its a nice song.....In The Eye Of The Sun could have been made better with some Jim input perhaps.......It would be great to hear from the 3 Doors what really happened in those sessions.......

I'm Horny, I'm Stoned.. would absolutely make a great song for Jim to sing. Imagine his "Love Her Madly" voice with that doubling effect on it. Although I like it just fine with Robbie.. it seems pretty genuine coming from him.

ok i can see him doing ships w/sails, and maybe even matching his voice with i'm horny i'm stoned. but i doubt he would ever agreed to sing that paricular song. i expect it would be far to lame and meaningless for jim...certaibnly not jim material i reckon. but i agree his voice may have sounded good with it.

Makes you wonder that with the 2nd disc attached to LAW coming out will The Doors finally give OV it's due and release it as a CD possibly with similar out take material.
This album deserves a release as without doubt it is a geniune Doors album.
