This is the famous on line chat where a guy from Worcester MA (smashing town....nice Irish Bar) gets right up R$ay's nose when he challenges him for charging money to sign books. R$ay does not like that one....

Shawnee, OK: Ray, who do believe are the five most influential rock bands of all-time ?
Ray Manzarek: The Beatles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Doors.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tempe, Arizona: What was the greatest experience you had being in The Doors?
Ray Manzarek: The greatest experience --- playing Madison Square Garden. The best audience in the world. The hippest audience in the world. And that's when Jim said "You can pick your teeth with a New York joint", meaning it was as thin as a toothpick.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greenbelt, MD: 1. There were recent rumors about the remaining three original Doors members touring this year--is that true, and if so, when and where will you tour? 2. Have you written a book about your years with the Doors? If not, will you write an autobiography? (I know John Densmore wrote "Riders on the Storm," which was excellent, but another view would be interesting.) 3.
Ray Manzarek: I have written a book. It's out and available now. It's called "Light My Fire - My Life with the Doors". In it, I tell the TRUE story of the real Jim Morrison -- our days together at UCLA, forming the Doors on Venice Beach, taking LSD, the Doors on acid, Jim Morrison's sex life, what happened in Miami, Jim Morrison and Andy Warhol in New York City. I tell all of these stories in my book, available now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Philadelphia, PA: During your VH-1 Special or any other concert for that matter, do you ever think about playing any songs from your last two albums, like Tightrope Ride or Good Rockin'?
Ray Manzarek: Yes, we did. We thought about playing Tightrope Ride, but we're saving it for our live tour, which won't happen this year. Maybe in 2002. We might work with some of the singers from the VH-1 special. Robbie and I are starting to work on some new Doors songs with new poets like Scott Weiland and Ian Astbury and Jim Carroll. Sometime in the next two or three months Robbie and I will get started on some new songs. I can't wait.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Madrid - Spain: I would like to know, in which contry did yo find the biggest reception when you were doing the european tour?
Ray Manzarek: England was our biggest reception, but if we were to play Europe today, I would think that France and Spain and Italy and Germany and Sweden and Denmark and Poland would be equally as receptive as London was in 1968, because everybody is psychedelic now!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mansfield ohio: Is Jim REALLY DEAD??
Ray Manzarek: You know, sometimes I really wonder. I THINK he is, but I hope he's not.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ontario, canada: will you be releasing anything that was done in studios but not put on record.
Ray Manzarek: WE will be releasing on Bright Midnight records, available only throught the Doors website, www.thedoors.com. All of the live recordings we have from the American Prayer sessions, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, the Aquarius Theater, and many other concerts. This is for fans only and will not be released in records stores.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Toledo, Oh.: Do you really like Creed, cause you said you did on rockline. They suck. You were talkin about good bands nowadays. Creed only had one good song and that was there first. Did you say that, because they helped on the tribute album. I thought you were a blues fan. Each to his own I guess.
Ray Manzarek: Why don't you like Creed? You don't think they're good? Scott Stapp is a very good singer, don't you think? So I'm a blues man. Doesn't that mean I can like rock'n'roll too? I like Igor Stravinsky, don't you? I like Muddy Waters. I like John Coltrane. I like Creed. What about you?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comment from Ray Manzarek: You know what they used to say in the 60s -- speed kills. So everyone be careful of crystal meth. It will destroy your brain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
london, england: having seen the oliver stone movie jim was depicted as really wild and out of control is this true or was it very much glamourised for the screen
Ray Manzarek: The movie is stupid. It's a white powder movie. The Doors were a psychedelic band. We didn't use white powder. The Doors movie is a white powder, glass pipe movie. YOu guys know what I mean. It's glamorized for Hollywood. If, that is, that movie could be called glamorized. In reality, Jim was much more spiritual, much more subtle, intelligent, gracious, charming, witty, and poetic. Oliver Stone couldn't understand these qualities. What a doofus.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
New York,NY: Because he came from such a military family isn't it possible that Morrision hated himself and the life he chose. This is why he was so self-destructive. Further, he disrespected his fans and fellow band memebers because of the ingrained values he gained from his family?
Ray Manzarek: No. What you're talking about is the Oliver Stone movie and the myth of Jim Morrison as disrespecting his fans and band. He loved his fans. He loved being on stage. He loved the Doors. But he had a problem with alcohol. That's what brought out the demon in Jim Morrison. Just as crystal meth will bring out the stupid, evil demon in you if you take that strange white powder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crescent City IL: Did you do a lot more psychedelics during The Doors and Strange Days albums than the rest? The music seems evident that a variety of sounds are used melodically.
Ray Manzarek: Yes. We did substances that would open the doors of perception. My experimentation with LSD showed me that we are all one. The earth, the stars, God, humans, are all the same energy. We come from the Creator, we are the Creator! And if you read the religions of all times, you'll find that the Buddha, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, and everyone else all say we are one. Jesus says, "I and the Father are one". The doors of perception open and show you the glories of life. You then translate that into your music. That's what the Doors did.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comment from Ray Manzarek: Psychedelic doesn't necessarily mean weird sounds; it means capturing the energy of existence in your life, in your art.
