Ray Manzarek promises the music will be your special friend when the former keyboardist for The Doors plays with slide guitarist Roy Rogers here Saturday night.
The unabashed Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee also promises some great stories.
"We'll be talking about psychedelics, man, God and existence," Manzarek said from his Napa Valley home Friday. "We'll be discussing The Doors and their relationship to sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll and that the rapture will never happen, so be forewarned, beware and come at your own risk."
Manzarek said he will dip into his vast repertoire of songs gathered since he played with Jim Morrison, Robbie Kreiger and John Densmore in one of the most famous rock bands ever. Manzarek said he might play one Doors song, "and if the audience is good, perhaps two."
In between tunes those attending will hear about "The wild and crazy Doors, the stories we all want to hear."
Manzarek said he will play piano and will not bring the Vox Continental organ he made famous in tunes like "Light My Fire" and "The End" during The Doors' turbulent and prolific run that started in the mid-'60s and ended with Morrison's death in 1971.
Concert goers will find out that Manzarek does not have long hair and mutton chops anymore, as well.
"Nor do I still smoke pot or take LSD," Manzarek said. "But if you fear LSD, run away fast. Dick Cheney should not come (to the concert)."
Roy Rogers is known as one of the best blues guitarists in the world. He has been nominated for Grammies and the W.C. Handy Blues Awards numerous times. Manzarek said he and Rogers will be playing together at the concert and not as individuals.
