It's interesting don't you think that after Jim died in 1971 the Doors never once did a Jim Morrison song live in concert. It was not as if they were incapable of carrying them off as Ray proved he was more than capable when Jim crashed out in Amsterdam and Ray did Break On Through, Hello I Love You, Soul Kitchen and Unknown Soldier and under the circumstances does them rather well.....But during 3 US tours and 1 European one they never touched Jim's work. Obviously they were trying to promote 'Other Voices and 'Full Circle' but Doors Robby classics such as Light My fire and Love Me 2 Times were a staple of thier set so I wonder why they never included the odd Break On Through or Moonlight Drive? Especially during the show at the Hollywood Bowl in 1972 (which ended up as thier last ever show)........... Maybe they were trying to exorcise Jim from thier psyche......reading Johns book shows he certainly fucked JD up........but it's sad that they never felt comfortable with what made them famous in the first place in 71/72......

Robby songs they did pretty much every gig but they never ever did a Jim song after July 1971..... I find that really odd considering Ray could knock off good versions of an average Doors set....

Ah i see.. well most of the best ones were Robbies anyway lol The best Jim ones were taht way because of the way he did em and wouldnt have the same impact if done by Ray or Robbie. Imagine Ray singing "Five To One"

Imagine Ray singing "Five To One" Ray proved he could do a decent Doors set when Jim was carted off to hospital in Amsterdam so I imagine he could easily have carried a few of the Doors standards....It would be interesting to know why the band never attempted a Jim song after 1971..... I doubt they thought the Hollywood Bowl would be the last ever Doors gig but it would have been cool if they had finished thier touring career with a Jim song.....

perhaps they didnt play jim tunes, because they were worried people would compare them to jim singing them. they probably thought that they could never match up and the fans would believe the same thing and would end up thinking their performance sof them were shite in comparison? just a thought

Maybe..... thats a good point but they played LMF and LM2X at every gig and LMF was probably the most popular jim song with an audience......just a weird bit of trivia that nobody has ever touched upon before.......

Yea walls.. I was gonna say. People didnt know or care who wrote what. They seemed to accept ray singing LM2X and LMF. I don't think doing "When The Musics Over" or Wild Child or somthing would have made a difference as far as comparing the voice to Jim.
I think they just didnt want to out of respect.

I think it's interesting that the three Doors had a bit of a grudge against ole dead Jim after he quit the band in 1971. They blamed him for Miami and were not too pleased when he left them after LA Woman. We know this because they forced a contract amendment upon him in March 1971 which was born out of their mistrust that he would come to England and find some new friends to form a new Doors with. Of course we know Jim displayed a level of trustworthiness than far eclipse all three of his band mates so that scenario was unlikely. But they did it anyway. Also whilst playing a gig in Paris they never once mentioned his name nor visited his grave. Now that sounds like some major grudge there. It's never been suitably explained with the rather pathetic excuse that the band felt visiting Jim in May 1971 whilst in Paris would incite a major riot somehow. So perhaps the roots of why they did not play a Jim Morrison composition lay in that somehow and they were trying to write Jim out of this new chapter. I give them credit for trying to play new music but this suspicion of not playing Jim songs out of some kind of malice or spite does not do them any credit at all. A very hazy chapter in Doors History with a lot of plusses and seemingly a lot of minuses as well.

Hi, I have returned from Asturias. I agree with you, Alex. I find very sad that in 1972 the three Doors didn’t visit Jim’s grave nor did a little tribute. Jim wasn’t even mentioned during the concert at Olympia in Paris. That rancor they felt about their mate dead seems me very inconsiderate.

Good to see you back. It's hard enough getting any conversation going here. To this day I cannot understand why the band made no mention of Jim in Paris in May 1972. They spoke of him in interviews that appeared in the UK from that time. It does show that there was animosity there between the dead and the living. I have seen that denied by Doors members but actions say more than words. The Doors actions on May 1st 1971 speak a lot louder than all the words they have uttered this last 40 years. That is one major grudge they held against the dead guy
