To be honest it promised a damn sight more than it ever delivered....which about sums up everything with The Doors in the 21st century sadly Instead of giving us groundbreaking interpretations of the Doors catalogue (Days Of The New excepted as they are this albums only highlight) they give us pedestrian versions available in better form at your local pub! The worst culprits are The Doors themselves who do a by the numbers supermarket version of Jim's own words......The Hooker/Morrison collaberation is a joke, ian astbury and Aerosmith are truly pathetic....I thought Bill Burroughs and Bo Diddly were piss drunk and the rest (apart from the aforementioned DOTN who do good versions of LA Woman and The End) should have done the Doors world a favour and been Beatles fans. The only other ones I would give any credit to are Train who at least make an effort with LMF The Goths and The Electronic mob did The Doors proud with thier innovative interpretations of Doors songs.... This lot just sleepwalk thier way through a waste of a CD.....and the worst of the lot is ian (who before anyone starts I have been a big fan of since the days of Southern Death Cult...so there) who turns a good Robby Krieger song into total puke..... Burn it don't buy it.......absolute shit Tribute band poll thread..... newdoorstalk.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=poll&action=display&thread=1107858907

I did a trade for this CD because I couldn't bring myself to purchase it. Although the CD represents a tribute to Jim Morrison I find it in bad taste that the surviving Doors performed on the CD as by doing that they performed a tribute to themselves. Can't get much more control of a recording than having the surviving band members sit in on the gig. Marilyn Manson originally agreed to cover "Five To One" for this CD. Manson then withdrew from recording it for Stoned Immaculate and chose to release it on an album of his own. After reading Manson withdrew from the tribute album gave me the impression that the surviving Doors were doing more than just sitting in on the recording process. I recall when the movie "Air America" came out it featured the song "Love Me Two Times" performed by Aerosmith. Aerosmith put their own spin on covering this tune and it sounded great. Ananova featured a small news story prior to the recording/release of Stoned Immaculate titled: "Manzarek Hits Out at Bono Over Jim Morrison Tribute Album." Ray Manzarek has criticised Bono for snubbing the Jim Morrison tribute album Stoned Immaculate. U2 say their singer did not have time to take part as the invitation came while they were recording their latest album All That You Can't Leave Behind. Stoned Immaculate comprises new material written by the three remaining members of The Doors - keyboard player Manzarek, guitarist Robbie Krieger and drummer John Densmore. It also features John Lee Hooker, Stone Temple Pilots' Scott Weiland, The Cult's Ian Astbury and Bo Diddley. Manzarek said: "Fine, we don't want you anyway, you're too old. You've either got to be as old as John Lee Hooker or a young guy." www.ananova.com/entertainment/story/sm_177191.htmlThe article indicates that the CD will contain "new" material by The Doors, which as you know was not the case they only dubbed existing material of Jim's voice with other vocals. Along similiar lines the D21C have promised a CD comprised of "new" material for the last three years even though the few tracks they have put together were not well receieved at their gigs and subsequently dropped from the set lists. The Ananova article shows just how pissy Manzarek can get when he doesn't get his way which in my opinion is reflected on the Stone Immaculate CD. I believe this tribute CD could have been a hell of a lot better if the bands signing on for the CD were allowed to go it alone without the surviving Doors sitting in on the performances.

There certainly enough covers around to fill an album Adam Ant's-Hello, I love you. Echo & The Bunnymen-People Are Strange Duran Duran-The Crystal Ship I can't see Your Face in My Mind by a band with a female lead singer.
The John Lee Hooker thing was really disappointing. I think Bo Diddley might have been more interesting if he did a cover of Who Do You Love? as The Doors covered it, a cover of a cover, if that makes any sense. I really liked the version of Hello, I love You on Stoned really found the dread that The Doors could have found & maybe included it on The Celebration of The Lizard album as originally planned.

I thought the Cult's version of WILD CHILD was very good, astbury really did a good job on that one.
I thought it was a great idea to have burroughs recite some of jim's poetry, a tip of the hat if you will from a liteary great.

i do love quite few tracks on this cd. although like jym said john lee hookers dont you love her madly is really shite! and i agree with dark star, that you cant get much controlling than having the original band members producing it and sitting in the recording studios. but i love quite a few tracks on it and think wild child is a great cover.

"Echo & The Bunnymen-People Are Strange" This is one the best Door's cover's I'ved ever heard. I liked the sped up tempo. They really nailed it. I really didn't like the Stone Immaculate or VH1 storytellers. They seemed like half hearted efforts. A good idea, but didn't quite come off well. I also liked Creed's version at Woodstock with Robbie Krieger on "Riders On The Storm". Another sped up tempo that keeps Jim's great lyrics but adds some great power to the song. I really like the drumming, hard and powerful that really drives the song.

Yeah, I like this version also. I think "The Doors" original version was better. The band X does a nice version.
