The film is about the lost potential of three of the world's most renowned musical talents and tormented souls: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison, all of whom were dead by the age of 27, and all within a 12-month period between 1970 and 1971.27 is the first production to receive financing under the English-Language Feature-Length Theatrical Documentary pilot programme, launched last June. The three financiers will work with the production team to maximise the potential for a successful theatrical release in Canada. The release will be promoted on CBC Television, and following a theatrical run, the pubcaster will premiere the film on television. The team behind 27 comprises producers Brad Fox and Sandra Cunningham (Where the Truth Lies, Being Julia), and write/director Stuart Samuels (Midnight Movies, Visions of Life). The pilot programme is now open to applications for its second round. Submissions from across Canada will be accepted at the Telefilm offices until May 15.
