Heres a cool one I ran across. A UNIVOX (PA Systems I gather) promo ad. Guess Treynor left em too? WTF? Everyone bailed on these guys.. first Paul then Bruce and then Vince? Fuckers! Evidently from the Other Voices photo sessions.

Bit unfair to say that these people 'bailed' on the guys......Paul gave very good service to The Doors and his reasons were honest if not emotional......maybe he just got tired of working with Morrison.....as to Bruce it was a Doors decision not to include him on Full Circle as I am sure Bruce would have been involved if he could and Vince Treanor did the first Other Voices Tour with them before moving on and came back for an encore during the Elektra sales convention in Palm Springs so his final gig with the band was January 1972. Jac Holzman proved he had faith in the Jim-less Doors by giving them a new contract and I for one don't think they were badly treated by the people they worked with nor do I think they treated those they worked with unduely unfairly either...(except maybe Sal and Ash their old managers )....The Doors were a decent set up and we have not seen any untoward tales of the band ripping off employees or being unfair to anyone they employed.........a lot of bands have disgruntled employees writing about them but thats not an aspect of The Doors we have seen...as yet! I like that ad by the way....wonder if there are any more trade papers ads like that from the 60s and 70s.....

John Toblers book The Doors is one of the few decent sources for post Jim info and he mentions that Jim rejected "Down on the Farm" during the LAW sessions and that it was fair to assume that the two songs featuring Jerry Scheff ('I'm Horny I'm Stoned' & 'Wandering Musician') were also from that session. John mentions.... "A couple of songs had been around a year or so ....they were songs we'd sort of thought of doing but it wasn't right then" which is a diplomatic way of saying Jim would not sing them. I recall reading somewhere that Jim absolutely refused to sing 'I'm Horny I'm Stoned'..... It's likely that rough cuts were recorded with Ray doing vocals and they were presented to Jim and he used his 'veto'.......its not likely that Ships w/ Sails is one of the LAW session songs which is a pity as I for one think Jim would have liked that.... The basic take would have been used for Other Voices with Jerry Scheffs bass guitar and tarted up during the Other Voices sessions after Jim died which feature various bassists such as Ray Neoplitan and Jack Conrad on bass.......I doubt Scheff was part of the OV sessions.

I for one have no difficulty imagining Jim singing those OV songs in his LA Woman style drowl. It woulda sounded fine. I just dont like that some people have the impression (not nessesarily anyone here) think that Jim felt the quality of the doors songs were going down and he just THEN lost interest. I'm there were other songs earlier in their career that he disliked and pushed aside.. most of which still ended up getting recorded later and being great. A good example..... "Hello I Love You".. ended up being their second #1

Hello I Love You is indeed a good one to point out as The Doors themselves did not wanna include it on WFTS when Adam Holzman suggested it to his Dad. Adam who was just a little kid was pretty much thier #1 fan at the time and loved their demo so put it forward when he heard they were looking for material. Eventually Dad talked them into using it and the rest was history!

This was recently added to Ray's site. It says OV photosession but it's obvious to anyone who's seen the album cover that that's wrong. Robbie's clean shaven and Johns down to just the mustache... and Ray's got more hair. I'd say this was mid 72. Maybe done for promotion of FC or even for possible FC cover shot never was.
