The Best Doors Moments - Post Jim Morrison.
What do You guys think to be the finest moments of The Doors between 1971 and the present day.....they can be anything...a gig, an album or single, book or newspaper article or interview, TV show any historical moment in the Doors story involving John, Ray or Robby after the death of Jim Morrison......anything that made an impression with you as a Doors fan in the time you have been one....
Pick no more than Five to keep it difficult.....
[glow=red,2,300]1[/glow]'Tightrope Ride' 1971.... from The Doors excellent first album without Jim Morrison. Written off as a band without their singer they proved themselves worthy of the name. This their tribute to their fallen singer was one of the albums sublime moments. Robby's best guitar solo!
[glow=red,2,300]2[/glow]'The Whole Thing Started With Rock & Roll, Now It's out of Control' 1974 .......Ray follows up his utterly superb debut album with what for me is his finest effort. The title comes from a Jim pronouncement at a concert in San Diego in 1970 and features Patti Smith and Joe Walsh as well as Hollywood star George Segal on banjo. A great mix of rock and jazz. Ray is the only Door who has produced a worthwhile body of work since 1971....pretty much all of it top notch!
[glow=red,2,300]3[/glow] The Beat Club in 1972..........The Doors having fun in a German TV studio during their 1972 Euro tour....a great record of the three as a unit backed by Jack Conrad and Bobby Ray. I passed on the chance to go see this line up at the nearby Newcastle City hall in May 1972....still today don't really know why.....this is a constant reminder to me what an absolute arce I was that day!
[glow=red,2,300]4[/glow]The Butts Band debut album 1974.....after Ray goes back to LA Robby & John link up with Jess Roden who brings along Phil Chen and Roy Davies for an astounding album. A mixture of calypso, rock and reggae it was critically acclaimed but sold no copies except for me and a couple of others.....the band folded and reformed as a bunch of tossers who were soon in oblivion where they belonged. But the debut even 30 years on stands up there as one of the post Door finest achievements.
[glow=red,2,300]5[/glow] John sues The Doors 2003.....for me a pivotal moment in Post Doors History as John prevents the damage done by Ray and Robby reinventing The Doors as a tribute to themselves from going any further. The Doors always stood for art boys.....two of you forgot that but thankfully one did not......among the most calamitous and uplifting chapters in Doors History but would have been better if it had never happened!
