I don't know if anyone is following the Matrix thread on the LL. But apparently now they're not going to release the Matrix recording like they planned. From what I read is the original recorder sent some cassette tapes to Paul Rothchild wanting to know if he was interesting in releasing a live Door's album. Paul at the time said no, and apparently the tapes were in the Electra's vault all this time. This is where they got the songs for the 97 Box set. So the issue may be The Doors are afraid of being sued because they don't own the masters or they feel the masters would be the best quality for release so they want to wait. Quality doesn't matter to me, because the ones on the 97 box set sound great. Anyway, it makes me laugh that they can't even release something that has all ready been released. What a joke. Makes Jeff look like an idiot. Another promise broken. The only thing I found exciting is that the original taper at the Matrix club says he has 4 hours of recording from the Matrix of The Doors. So that means there probably lots of material we never heard before. Of course The Doors can't cut a simple deal with these people.
On another note, Dave(FF) got promoted to "Doors Archivist". Talk about putting the fox in the chicken pen. It would be interesting see how many dubs will be walking out of The Door's vault. That wouldn't be a bad thing if Dave would share with other Door's fans, unfortunately he is not that way.
