Toronto Rock & Roll Revival Toronto Varsity Stadium Ontario Canada September 6th 1969The week before there is a Toronto Rock & Roll Revival Rally which featured among others The Doors films Feast Of Friends, Break On Through & The Unknown Soldier.Toronto Rock & Roll Revival Toronto Varsity Stadium September 13th 1969The Doors, still basking in the unwanted glow of Miami, headline a 'Who's Who'' of rock 'n' roll Royalty. Jim Morrison is so moved he does a tribute to them all with his 'Illustrious Musical Geniuses' rap during The End.
To boost the festival the organisers invite John Lennon and his new Plastic Ono Band which included Eric Clapton and future Yes drummer Alan White. They go down well despite Lennon's embarrassing idiot wife Yoko trying to derail the set with her weird wailings.
The Doors follow Lennon as the crowd grow tired after already 12 hours of rock n roll which had been presented seamlessly with next to little delay between acts. They pull of one of their better performances and are widely commended.
One highlight is when Doors pals Alice Cooper perform a powerful set culminating in singer Alice 'biting the head off a live chicken'. Of course he didn't do anything of the sort but label boss Frank Zappa told the band not to deny it.
Most of the publicity goes to John Lennon much for the embarrassment of the ridiculous performance of the idiot he was married to. The festival is filmed but The Doors refuse to allow their set to be filmed by DA Pennebaker.Billboard August 1969 The novel idea for a ticket.
