Is there any recordings with The Doors, or without, that has John doing a Drum Solo? Maybe even video? I know he did one in 1972... But what about during Jim's time?
Thanks...

It does not seem as if JD ever did what any of us would refer to as a drum solo during the Jim Doors days........COTL had a few drum moments in it but not what could be construed as a 'drum solo'. The only recorded solo I have ever heard is during Ships With Sails from the post Jim era..........the video of Beat Club captured it on film with all The Doors joining in............... The Doors seemed to me to be a band that steered clear of the tricks the others employed.........no bass player in the band and no drum solos in concert.........lets face it most drum solos can be terminally boring...........only ever seen a handful (John Bonham and German rockers Birth Control to name the best I have seen) that did not make you wish that the guitar would burst in and end it....... John was too clever a drummer anyways ..........The Doors never really needed drum solos..........

Ha!
I did one the other night with The Strange Doors (as a link between Wild Child and WDYL) ... totally copped the idea from another trib band, but I did a very very short sort of free-jazz one between the two tunes. The band dug it but I don't know how much sense it made musically. Lemme know if you wanna hear it, Alex.

Not a big fan of drum solos mate...as I said Bonham, Birth Control and Cozy Powell are the only ones I liked. Put it on your forum and I will prolly give it a listen

Gotta give it up for Bonham. Major influence on my playing, along with Ringo, Elvin Jones, Ginger Baker. I'll post a link. It is a short solo. Nobody wants to hear drum solos go on more than a couple of minutes these days anyway ... And you gotta be a motherfucker to play anything longer that can hold a listener's interest ...
