Susquehanna University Field House, Weber Chapel Auditorium, Selinsgrove PA 14th October 1967The band are good but most of the audience is not. They seem to have been caught out by The Doors as the conservative students were not ready for Rock. Afterwards a spat between two journalists from the Crusader newspaper is held in the full glare of newsprint and is settled by a student voice praising the band.28-9-1967 The Crusader. Susquehanna Campus Newspaper “That was a big deal,” recalls Mike Marcinek, a Susquehanna sophomore at the time. “Bucknell, Penn State, all the colleges couldn’t believe tiny Susquehanna got The Doors.”Program for the evening. Photo from the concert It was supposed to be The Young Rascals on stage in Selinsgrove the night of Oct. 14, 1967, according to a Sept. 28, 1967 article in the campus newspaper, The Crusader. But the group had a better, later, offer to tour Europe. The Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger signed a contract Sept. 6 of that year for his band to be the replacement. The Los Angeles foursome — also featuring drummer John Densmore — rode into Snyder County for a one-off at a tiny liberal arts college. They were paid $5,000 for a two-hour show at Chapel Auditorium. It was a packed house, but not a sell-out. The venue’s maximum capacity is 1,500.Contract signed by Robby.

What follows is a spat between two contributors to the college newspaper The Crusader. One pro one anti. The initial review a lazy takedown of Morrison because he had long hair and did not have a top hat and tails and a cravat. It is like sending Jacob Reese-Mogg to review Motorhead.19-10-1967 26-10-1967 2-11-1967 The Crusader. Susquehanna Campus Newspaper The show was hardly a money-maker for the university. It brought in a combined $5,596.60 on the sale of tickets and playbills. After paying out the band and other costs, profit was a paltry $57.34, according to a financial statement provided by Susquehanna.
