In their early days after the release of the debut the band play several weekends at the Avalon Ballroom in 1967 as part of their conquest of San Francisco. Their first is with a locally based Canadian band called The Sparrows who would in a few months change their name and their fortunes as Steppenwolf.

March 7th-11th The Matrix, San Francisco, CATaking place well before the band managed to become successful they played a few nights at a small club owned in part by Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane. Another owner Peter Abram famously recorded the band during this short residency on a reel to reel recorder. He shared a deliberately low quality tape with Paul Rothchild hoping The Doors would buy his excellent recording. How do I know it's excellent? He released 30 second clips a decade ago and they were of the highest quality compared to the crap The Doors peddled and tried to pass off as a master copy. As the band were not known that well outside of Los Angeles the shows are not well attended which can be heard from Abrams bootleg recordings. Nevertheless an important period in Doors History which document the beginnings of The Doors Legend7-3-1967 San Francisco Chronicle A barely legible poster you need to be stoned to read.
