He wrote to Frank & Kathy and was pretty upbeat about being in Europe.
They had written to him to tell them they were coming to Europe to visit friends in Hungary (Hungary were in the Warsaw Pact then which would have made it hard to get in and out) and visiting various Euro places including Paris.
Jim told them to stay with him & Pam when they were in Paris. (I bet Pam was not pleased with that)
He also told them he had lost his credit cards and cash in Spain so how he was living God knows. He was not exactly a wallet kind of guy so no surprise there.
Considering he was probably a millionaire he wasn't exactly living the life we fans would have expected.
The famous Bob Greene letter Jim Morrison sent in late June or early July requesting funds and stating that he and Pam intended to stay in Europe indefinitely.
This letter in particular shows Jim being clear headed as he was making plans for the future and moving on from the past. He inquired as to the status of new credit cards (“What’s the problem?”) and that house bills were catching up and to send over $3,000 ($20,000 in today’s money).
This was the clearest evidence that exists that he had left The Doors for good.
Corroborated by the bands manager Bill Siddons who stated that Jim called a meeting to announce he was quitting The Doors and an Elektra employee who on the Densmore forum stated that it was common knowledge that he had left within the Elektra offices.
Add to that what friends like Babe Hill and Frank Lisciandro added to the debate that he had left the band as well as his new Paris friends who got the impression from his conversation that he was done with The Doors.
