Live @ The Matrix Club San Francisco CA March 7th/10th 1967 THE MASTER REEL 2023
After decades of lies and Jeff Jampot's bullshit we may have finally gotten what was promised in the debacle of 2008.
Of course The Doors don't do cheap so we get a 'limited edition' at an extortionate price for Vinyl and CD releases.
But this from 2023 one seems the real deal.
Of course this is THE DOORS so it would not be such if they did not make a momentous fuck-up.
For a change it is not on any of the records but the sleeve itself.
On the front cover it says 'the original masters'. Excellent at fucking last.
Then they fuck it up with a sticker that claims the album is 'taken straight from the first-generation reels.'
One is not the other.
A master tape is the one that was used to record the show.
A first generation tape is one taken from a master reel so a recording of the recording.
Fucking idiots.
Nevertheless it certainly pisses all over that criminal rip off from 2008 where Jampot lied his ass off about what was being sold and mugged thousands of Doors fans .
Me included by selling what was the 3rd generation bootleg we all had as a master tape.
I swore I would never again buy any Doors product that came from them and so far I never have.
So is this Master/1st Generation Reel worth the fuss.
Oh Yes!
It's not a soundboard and never claimed to be one. But is one of the best quality audience tapes I have heard and I have heard one or two.
Mind you the two never before heard instrumentals are just filler and if you never heard them (pun intended) you would not have missed anything.
Summertime instrumental on the other hand is excellent.
Pity the 2nd End was lost apart from 5 minutes as it is good.
A moment in time as The Doors begin their climb to greatness when in July they would become America's #1 group.
Featuring most of the first album and some nice cuts from the 2nd album mixed in with some blues covers.
