8th December 1993: Impressions Of An Anniversary 1993 By Jochen MaaßenI never felt comfortable going to see Jim's grave. I had a couple of opportunities in the mid 70s but declined as I thought it a bit creepy. It would not be 2002 when I came along and realised I was wrong. Since then I have been a couple of dozen times or more for either the 3rd or the 8th celebration or both.
Early in my times visiting I met a nice German guy called Jochen Maaßen and got on quite well with him. He knew I had a fanzine online and asked me if I would review his book Wild Child In The City Of Light and gave me a copy. Not sure if it was the same time or another shortly after but he also gave me a copy of this beautifully put together remembrance of the Jim 50th Birthday Bash in Paris 1993. Only a 1000 copies were printed and if you are lucky enough to have one it is a magnificent effort.
Of all the times I have been to Paris nothing quite matched this one although there were a couple of great trips involving the likes of Olivias bar, Kilty's and the German tribute band The Lizard Kings who were my favourite of all those tribute bands and lead singer Benny did not even try to sound like Jim.8th December 1993: Impressions Of An Anniversary 1993 By Jochen Maaßen
