Elektra chose to hold back the release of the bands debut LP to give it a free run in the New Year. It was released on January 4th 1967 along with the single Break On Through. This song was problematic for its use of the word 'higher' which had to be removed to get it airplay on the radio.

Sadly it was all for naught as BOT failed at home and never resonated with the markets it attempted to break on through such as UK/Europe Australia/New Zealand and the rest of the Americas. Morrison wrote it as he was crossing one of the many canal bridges in Venice. He said it was about a girl. Probably Mary but maybe someone else.Other releases in 1967UK single. BOT did not trouble the charts but it was noticed virtue of a review in one of the music papers of the day and received a decent if small mention.German version

1966 promotion for the up-and-coming debut single and debut in San Francisco. Elektra were very inventive when it came to promoting their bands.
