MOJO RISIN'—FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE?
By Paul Krassner
New York Press August 10 2005
John Densmore, former drummer for The Doors, joined by the late frontman Jim Morrison's parents and other relatives, recently won their lawsuit against keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and former Cult singer Ian Astbury in an attempt to prevent them from performing as The Doors of the 21st Century.
Meanwhile, Arts Publications in Evansdale, Iowa, has published a 167-page book, Jim Morrison Ceremony: Exploring the Shaman Possession, in which the author, Adriana Rubio, explores the possibility that Morrison was involved with occult religions, such as Santeria, and may have ingested Tetrodotoxin to fake his death and is still alive today, living in Oregon and unable to find a job.
I contacted Rubio in Buenos Aires and asked if she thought it was possible that Morrison, by way of some mysterious religious means, had anything to do with the recent legal decision against his former bandmates.
"It's going to be to everybody's own mind on how this case was set up," she replied. "Although Jim Morrison was connected with Voodoo and other kind of similar beliefs, I don't think he has anything to do with this legal decision since we don't know for sure that he is alive. A person must be alive to ask for a ritual, otherwise someone else should do it.
"Author Jim Hankins, who is an expert in the Voodoo field, wrote a book about it and clearly explains how some Voodoo spells and specific rituals can help a person to come out successfully in difficult situations such as a trial, a demand or going to jail. Jim Morrison was in New Orleans, the Capital of Voodoo, before going to Miami, and visited Jamaica, country in which Voodoo is practiced, after the 'Miami Incident' [he was charged with indecent exposure, lascivious behavior and simulating oral copulation].
"He wasn't arrested that night and by the time of making those ridiculous charges publicly and according to Densmore's own words, 'Jim acted as if he knew what was going on.' I think Jim Morrison always knew what was going on, he was a visionary, a 'black shaman' who knew well enough how to drive your mind.
"I can't affirm that Jim's spirit is going around since I doubt he is dead. However, there's something in shamanism called
'multi-location.' This means that a shaman can transport his body to other places and/or be at the same time in different places. When you talk about a 'spirit,' you are talking about a person who died. For the shamanic cultures, a shaman not necessary has to be dead to do so."
The question remains, is it just a coincidence that Mr. Mojo Risin' is an anagram of Jim Morrison's name?
