This is a very very interesting period in Doors History which is never really talked about much and was overshadowed for obvious reasons by July 1971
Whilst Jim was away in Paris The Doors began working on new material at The Doors Workshop.
What direction the band was going was up in the air Jim had suggested they work up instrumental material with the hope that some of it will be blues compositions.
Rumours were rife that The Doors had left Elektra and reports abounded that Atlantic and Columbia (how ironic) were ready to offer the band contracts.
Of course we have no evidence of any of this but like much in The Doors world it goes with the territory.
One aspect that has been addressed (how true we have no real idea) was that the band was auditioning new singers at this time......Bill Siddons has already stated that Mike Stull who would later front the 2nd Butts Band was auditioned as a replacement for Jim. Also there are rumours (most likely bollocks) that Iggy Pop was in line for the gig at the time.
While all this was happening Jim was trying in vain to interest a few outlets in Paris to screenings of the copies of 'HWY' and 'Feast Of Friends' he had brought along.
He was also keeping up with writing and had also taken along a copy of the poetry session from 1969 (which would later end up as 'The Lost Paris Tapes') and was writing in the notebooks that would later turn up as 'Paris Journal'.

His last communication with home was actual a request for the publishers of 'The Lords & New Creatures' Simon & Schuster to replace the intended cover photo for the paperback edition (which was a shot from the late 60s) with a more recent one. Which they indeed did.
The band was in Limbo at that time as they had no idea even if Morrison was still a Door and if they did they have never in 35 years let anyone outside their circle know it.
The Infamous amendment to The Doors agreement that was signed in March 1971 prevented Jim from starting up a new band and calling it The Doors over in Europe but it seemed that the agreement did not apply to them and protect HIM from his bandmates auditioning replacements at their end.
The band most likely worked up the material that would become Other Voices including the material that had been recorded and rejected by Morrison during the LA Woman sessions.
They may well have recorded the songs at this time with both Ray and Robby vocals with a view to preparing themselves for the bombshell of Morrison quitting the group.
In the end it is immaterial as Jim never returned but it would be really interesting to know more about this 'Lost' month in Doors History!
