I'm gonna hang on your neck just like a verdilac
Take you for a ride in my Cadillac
Well I tried, I tried but I can't make you understand
Baby can't you see I'm more than just a man
If you don't bring me coffee in my favourite cup
You're make it necessary for me to conjure up
Spirits
Spirits
I'm gonna hang on your neck just like a verdilac
Take you for a ride in my Cadillac
Well I tried, I tried but I can't make you understand
Baby can't you see I'm more than just a man
If you don't bring me coffee in my favourite cup
You're make it necessary for me to conjure up
Spirits
Spirits
Spirits
Spirits
You know too much.....Van Helsing!
Full Circle
Just to clear up confusion a verdilac is an Hungarian vampiric figure. A sort of spirit that sucks away your life force.
Lyrically this Ray Manzarek composition is pretty dumb to say the least and seems to have been written by Ray when he was drunk.
But musically it is a different kettle of fish.Very reminiscent of British band Audience thanks to some soaring sax from Charles Lloyd and some extra percussion from Bobbi Hall to support John Desnmore's excellent drumming throughout.
#Audience were signed in a US deal to Elektra and jac Holzman favoured Audience singer Howard Werh to take on the lead vocal spot with The Doors in 1973.
All three Doors were fans of Audience at this time.
Robby Krieger hits the wah wah peddles for once to offer up some horror movie style guitar.
#Paul Rothchild would not allow RK to use guitar peddles in the bands early phase as he thought it would dilute the guitar sound and wanted it to sound unique.
Charles Larkey does a stirling job on bass supporting the percussion but this song is Ray Manzarek's and he lets it all hang out on this one.
Sometimes dueling with Charles Lloyd sometimes taking off on odd musical tangents and at one point half way through doing weird Vincent Price like vocal chants invoking whatever spirits were around the studio at the time the band were nailing this song to the mast as the strangest Doors song ever.
The Doors did choose to copy a little trick Jim Morrison used on Touch Me and as the song fades out Ray proclaims in his best East European accent.
'You know too much.....Van Helsing!'.
Classic Ray Manzarek.

The musical side of Verdilac tips a hat to the long musical section of this Audience classic from 1970.

What direction do YOU think the band would have gone in if they had carried on after Full Circle?
What could have the doors become?
Should the band have carried on at all without Jim Morrison in 1971?
35 Years On....should The Doors have carried on?
Could an effective Doors replacement have been found for Jim Morrison in 1972/73?
Could Jim have been replaced in 1972?
What has been the best Post Jim Doors moment for YOU in the last 35 years?
