John Densmore interview - THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR"I do remember that Robby had a black eye during Touch Me. A lot of people have asked me if Jim punched him out. It's not true he was in a car accident."John DensmoreRobby Krieger Interview With Gary JamesQ - Didn't you appear with a black eye onstage at one point? What was that all about? A - Oh yeah. I got into a fight with Jim. They wanted to put makeup on, but I said no, maybe 20 years from now somebody will be interested and ask me about that. Q - Now there's a question you don't get asked too much. A - Believe it or not, that's one of the most asked questions, (laughs) Everybody always thinks I'll ask him about that. Somebody just asked me about that the other day. www.classicbands.com/RobbyKriegerInterview.html Premier Guitar Interview With Robby KriegerOne last question: When I saw the Doors on TV playing “Touch Me,” you had a huge black eye. What happened? I had a fight with Jim and he hit me. You’ll have to read my book to find out what happened. I’m writing it myself and it’ll be done sometime soon. Ray and John both wrote their own books about the Doors, so I figured I should write one too. www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2010/Mar/Robby_Krieger_The_Doors_Distinctive_Fret_Master.aspxInternet Chat With Ray Manzarek November 17 1997Ray Manzarek says "From Ray in Los Angeles: Hi Ray! I really dig your piano playing: How did Robbie get a black eye on the Ed Sullivan Show, or the Smothers' Brothers show?" Ray Manzarek says "Back in the 60's it was dangerous to have long hair. Rednecks would beat you up because you were considered un-American. If you had long hair, it meant you were against the war in Vietnam. And REAL "Americans" love killing! They love booze! Drinking! Whiskey! and they love guns! Instead, the hippies like to get high on pot and then they like to make love and dance and make music and sing and have a good time! Hippies were against killing. So, three rednecks got in a fight with Jim and Robbie down the street from the Doors' office at a bar and there was pushing and shoving and Robbie Krieger got whacked in the eye. Jim ducked a punch, Robbie wasn't able to duck the punch. That was 2 days before we went on the SMothers Brothers' Show. They said to Robbie on the show, let's put some make-up on that black eye. You don't want to be on national televisoin with a black eye. And Robbie said, Yes I do! No one has ever gone on TV with a black eye. I'm going to be the first! It's a badge of honor. The End!" www.crystal-ship.com/entrevues.php?cht=03

Robby with his mysterious black eye on Smothers Brothers Show 1968. He has had over 40 years to come up with a good story for it so expect that in his book if it ever appears. This is a topical thread due to the fact Krieger is supposedly writing his Doors memoir and also as 40 years of Jim Morrison being unable to speak for himself approaches we can expect to see a lot of 'Jimbo' in the next few months. Who was Jimbo you may ask? 'Jimbo' was an excuse The Doors employ to cover their asses to all the shenanigans that they were involved in from 1968 onwards. He is a handy foil to deflect scrutiny. Krieger has been saying recently that Jim Morrison gave him the black eye in a fight. This contradicts the other tales told by John and Ray and even himself over the last couple of decades. Obviously the new knowledge acquired in Doug Cameron's book that Jim tried to throttle the life out of Ray in New York and was only prevented in sealing that yawning chasm of crap by the other two Doors dragging him off the keyboard player does add credence to this. We know that The Doors tell lies to further their own agendas and Morrison has been demonised repeatedly by these three people over the last 4 decades. The supremely silly When You're Strange an example of the lies told about Morrison to help rake in cash. The story of Robby Krieger's black eye encapsulates all the manipulation of The Doors and we will wait with baited breath to see what the 21st century Robby Krieger tale will bring on the subject. It's a simple little tale seemingly of little consequence but it is one that goes to the heart of The Doors over the last 40 years. What was the relationship between The Doors like after the events we talk about in The Doors Unhinged thread? Sadly we only get one viewpoint. That of those still alive. But we know that these three people tell lies. The truth is indeed out there. Hidden in the cracks between stories. Like a long lost 5p down the back of an old sofa it can be found but it's not easy. Here we try to do just that anyone fancy joining in the discussion is indeed welcome. The Doors unhinged..Soft Parade cause & effect The Great Lost Doors Album Celebration Of The Lizard!

So there we have it. Robby's fight with Jim? Ray and the rednecks? John's car accident? Which one do you believe? Which one would make most cash from attention grabbing?Ray's rednecks is a good story as it takes in the whole hippies against the world thing but we know beyond any question of a doubt that Ray Manzarek is a massive liar. Robby's fight is a good one as it can be used to bring in Jimbo. And after all Robby has a book to sell. John and the car accident is just plain boring but of course JD is the most chilled out Door and the one with at least a shred of integrity left. It's difficult but not THAT difficult

Robby's fight with Jim? The story that Tom Dicillo would have included if his film had been longer
Ray and the rednecks? The story that Oliver Stone could be included if he had known it when he made the film
John's car accident? The real story

The Doors tell a lot of lies about The Doors and they do it for profit. A nice juicy argument like the Manzarek version of the Buick reaction far more lucrative than the more calmer Morrison reaction other people report.
So Robby will weave a lie about how he and Jim got into a fight and gain interest in his memoir that it probably does not deserve.
It was obvious that the thrid Doors memoir would be the least readable as John then Ray have already done all this to death. So Krieger needed to spice up his tale. It will be interesting only for the level of fantasy and lie that this brain fried ex hippy comes out with.

Ray and the rednecks? The story that Oliver Stone could be included if he had known it when he made the film It's a pity as Stone could have had Val Kilmer punching Robby then strangling Ray in the car before the Buick argument. It's funny how people like Ray accused Stone of lying but have themselves been lying about this band for 40 years. Krieger's new improved black eye tale simply another in a long line of Doors lies.

Robby Krieger is such a stoner I can't believe he has enough brain cells left to write a book. As we know Ray Manzarek has been getting a lot of attention over the years with his wild tales so it only seems logical that Robby wants some attention for himself. Doors history shows that the stronger the myth the more attention the band has received. Now days, the tables have turned a bit because fans and journalists alike have found out the lies that have been told over the years so who knows how much of Robby's story will be believed.

During the performance, Jim Morrison missed his cue for the lines "C'mon, c'mon" and Robby Krieger could be seen with a black eye. Krieger stated in several interviews given after Morrison's death that Morrison had given him the black eye during a confrontation, inadvertently referencing the song's original title
From Wikipedia and it shows how the lies are being set up to coincide with the release of RK's book. This garbage will be trundled out by Krieger when he releases his fantasy bio and it shows that he has been in Ray's company too long.
One aspect that will be of interest to me is will he support the Ray lie that Morrison wanted to fire Densmore from the band?

it would be fun if robbie's bio has notes to ray's bio
as we where driving along the long road through texas we drove into a town where we stopped for fuel and food. when we returned to the car there was a group of rednecks waited for us by the car to start a fight (ray's book light my fire page 521)(he's god so he knows what happened to me) *lol*

Considering Krieger's brain cells probably got fried decades ago it might not be far from the truth mate. He now has a grudge against Densmore for stopping his dreams of exploiting Jim Morrison along with his mate Ray. Might well be a rewriting of History to make John the outsider in The Doors. Robby said in an interview on here somewhere that he and John had not been close since the 70s. Ray's was a fun read but when you realise he is a liar it's not really something to take as any kind of gospel. John made an attempt to atone to Morrison and is probably a lot more honest account than Ray's. That's why John does not back most of the ideas to sell Doors music to anyone with a big cheque. Even the families would go along with Ray and Robby but Densmore stops them in their tracks. This is why the counter sued Densmore in an attempt to remove veto power. Both Ray and Robby lied under oath in court about the way things were. Thankfully they were shown to be liars and the counter suit thrown out. They took it as high as the could in the US but the Supreme Court was not interested. Shows how desperate they were to get majority rules in the Doors. Densmore then would lose his veto and they could tempt the families. Obviously it does not always work as the shoe shows. But Densmore is a bulwark against Doors commercialisation so expect Robby to give him a kicking.

John seems to have been the most serious of the bunch and disgusted by some of the bullshit out there. Makes more and more sense that the last call Jim made was to John, doesn't it? The MAN died at such a young age......

John does have his moments such as his radio exploitation of Jim's 65th birthday to sell that Matrix garbage ....but then goes and holds a poetry reading.....he is an enigma is ole JD Robby seems to have become Ray's pet this last decade or so and will load his story with lies to exploit the crazy Jim angle. That's why I don't have any respect for them as human beings anymore sadly.

The song lyrics were originally come on come on hit me babe about lynn and robby's fights. I believe the black eye came from Lynn. That would explain the conflicting stories to cover it up. No man would want to admit that a girl got the best of him.
