HMV LA Woman Classic Collection CD Box Set 1988.This is a very rare item and luckily I happen to have one. LA Woman Rare UK limited edition HMV box set which included a 10-track LAW CD in jewel case with picture sleeve or vinyl 12" LP also a 12-page colour booklet + certificate. All housed inside a numbered embossed 12" x 12" picture box, limited to 2500, copies. My own copy, bought in 1989 at Croydon HMV, is CD #1328 and this has been in my wardrobe since 2011 which was when I took it out to scan the booklet and box for this original thread.
## After a bit of research this last couple of days I discovered that HMV did nothing special for the CD and just dumped any old copy of LA Woman into the box. This makes it less of a rare release and just one that helped HMV get rid of any stock they would be putting into the cheap racks. Classy! This was released in 1988 as a series of 16 HMV special editions together with a booklet. LA Woman has an essay from legendary NME rock writer Max Bell's in the liner notes for the booklet. Max is one of my fave rock writers and just happened to be heavily into the Blue Öyster Cult & Pavlov's Dog back in the 70s & 80s These and The Doors making up 3 of my top #4 All Time Greatest Bands Of Forever. If he had been a Lindisfarne fan I would have married him.

HMV LA Woman Classic Collection Vinyl Box Set 1988. I did not know at the time but a vinyl edition of 2500 LPs was released as well around the same time. This one is a Canadian copy so I wonder if they also released 2500 in several countries such as US & Canada. I recently discovered that the UK LP Box was manufactured in Germany but for the UK market. UK Edition # Made in Germany on the red label LA Woman HMV Special Edition Box Set Released in the 80’s as part of a HMV Classic Collection Series in a pretty neat numbered 12 inch collectors box it is one of the better Doors collectors items. Featuring a nice booklet with text by Max Bell which looks at the recording of the LP and the latter part of The Doors career its one of the few collectables I continue to hang on to and was worth the £13 I paid for it. Music wise it contains the basic CD of LA Woman without any electronic chicanery or enhancement. And you know what? That is fine by me!!! Scorpywag Rating 10/10. The Doors at their very best!! SP. Summer 2002

##Max Bell won a job with NME when in the mid 70s they asked people to write a review and send it in. The best got the job. Max wrote a great review of my favourite Blue Öyster Cult album Tyranny & Mutation. He championed both the Cult and St Louis outfit Pavlov's Dog whilst writing some amazing articles about The Doors which included a 1981 tribute to Jim that took up at least 6 pages.
