Call me crazy but I think the Alta Cienega is as close to Jim as we can get in this life. Walk the streets and get that MOJO feeling, drink and carouse late into the American night, wake up feeling a bit rough and do it all over again...
I miss LA.

I miss LA. the only thing about LA or west hollywood for that matter is that you definately need a car to get around ...i mean barneys is walking distance and the old doors offices is walking distance ....so for jim being on that cnr of la cienaga and santa monica was ideal .....but holy fuck that walk up the hill to sunset is a killer ......even the fittest of people wud suffer ..... i can see why jim picked the alta cienaga .....in between the gigs and travelling across the country ....that cnr was his life . i agree with you Moses .....Paris he liked and then he died, but LA ....was home for many of his short years ....

Yo Mark!. What was it like being in Barneys? what's that place like?!. I love Barneys ....and the honest reason why is that Jim drank there ..think of an american bar and grill or a hard rock cafe without the memoribilla .....its still considered a roadhouse according to some people ive talked with .. you walk in ..turn right and u have the long bar with about 25 bar-stools going down it .... a fantastic juke box right near the door , that plays everything from seattle rock to hendrix, joplin, and the doors .......the selection of beers from around the world is fantastic ...u can get these in bottles or on tap ....and the food is to die for ......Barneys boasts to have the second best chilli in america ....no-one actually knows where the best comes from though .....i like that gimic a lot ......fantastic ....... so back to the front door, turn left and your in the restaurant .....small little lamenex tables with newspaper and magazine clippings stuck under them ...all rock stars and movie stars, scandel, money etc ....two pool tables in the middle of the place ......the menus are made to look like old newspapers .......hamburgers, all day breakfasts , pizzas, chilli (of course) steaks, everything ......... no smoking in any part of the restaurant or bar .....the place closes at 2am ....a californian law, and you will also find that in most states of america ...... all food can be ordered and eaten at the bar ......which is important ......you have to get urself a barstool, because the place can get busy ...... car number plates on the roof at the bar, from the 50's and 60's .....barneys is the last roadhouse on the west coast the end of route 66 ....hey we've all read the books ......say no more ...... a very tiny balcony at the front with a few chairs .....you over look santa monica boulavard, and slightly to your left IHOP...a 24hr diner called the international house of pancakes ........ one more thing .....the place is full of televisions playing sport .......the toilets (rest rooms) are a fucking mess. While your taking a dump if u dare ....u might see the odd graffiti ..i am the lizard king i can do anything ......or you might see call this no. with a guys name .....for anal sex .....since the mid-nineties that part of west-hollywood is primarily a gay area .........have no fear the place attracts, rockers, actors, sports buff's , beautiful girls ............ cheers

Facing the bar from the adjacent room, notice the small pic of Jim of a bearded Jim I super-glued right behind the red letter A of the neon sign that said "BAR", over the door way? If so, look to your right and the same photo is on the wall again.
*Also, I learned a very important lesson that night about opening the top of a super glue tube with your teeth.
And that's all I have to say about that.
