Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Field House, Troy, New York 8th December 1967.
December 1967 was a tumultuous month for The Doors mostly remembered for the events of New Haven over in Connecticut. But the most interesting concert was in New York State where Jim Morrison would celebrate his 24th birthday with the most intelligent put down for an audience in the History of music
The band was brought to Troy by the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity.
The frat boy audience ignored Tim Rose who was the support act and sit around in front of the stage playing cards.
The Doors take to the stage probably opening proceedings with Break On Through. The crowd pay little attention and the band can't energise them even with a rocker like Back Door Man. Considering these people had booked The Doors they were not remotely interested in America's #1 rock band. The band even play an early version of Five To One. As a result the band pack up after 45 minutes. Sometime before they leave the stage Jim Morrison shows his frustration by saying 'If This Is Troy then I'm with the Greeks'.
Some of the reporting seemed to have seen a different concert talking of how well The Doors enchanted the audience. Some of the audience complained it was too short.
"That's the trouble with reality!.... it's taken far too seriously! I do hope God is good to me and Santa Claus to the children! Celebrate...this parties over...I'm going home!"

“Most people were pleased by Ray Mangarek’s organ and Robby Krieger’s guitar soaring through “Light My Fire” and a few other songs. Unfortunately, much of the impact and fire of Jim Morrison’s vocals seemed to be lost in the expanses of the Field House. Instead of setting the house on fire, Jim failed to even break the ice. He seemed disgusted with the whole scene at the end and showed how he felt when he cried, “if this is Troy, I’m with the Greeks”. For the crowd’s taste, the concert was far too short to be worthwhile. Those on the floor felt cheated of space, and all felt cheated out of the best the Doors could have offered.” 13-12-1967 The-Polytechnic, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute NY
