AMENDMENT to their July 7th 1966 agreement with Elektra. This is odd as on November 15th 1966, whilst at their month long Ondine Discotheque residency in New York, they officially sign as an Elektra band for seven albums. So surely that date would have constituted their 'agreement'?
I can't imagine it's a typo and nobody noticed it. BUT that date, July 7th, throws a huge spanner into popular Doors Lore regarding how they were signed to Elektra
## Jac Holzman had seen the band at The Whisky possibly end of May but was not impressed so on August 15th 1966 (according to On The Road) he returned with Paul Rothchild and after a bad 1st set Jac offered them an on the spot contract after their 2nd set which, according to Rothchild, was one of the greatest sets he had heard in his life. The Doors decide to think it over and bring in Max Fink, who is recommended by Krieger's dad, to represent them. They sign a provisional contract 3 days later on August 18th 1966 (On The Road) ##
Also note that the band were in the studio a week later, August 24th a date that we know is solid, which is rather fast within days of signing what was a provisional contract with Elektra which was ratified in November that year in New York.
So maybe contrary to that popular Doors Lore all of this happened in June/July 1966 So as Toyah would say this is a 'mhystery'. ROYALTY CHEQUE of $568 paid to Jim Morrison. ?? Dated 26th October 1966 it may well have been Jim's first but oddly the band had not released a record. It mentions that it is 'per contract' and for 'The Doors' so I would assume the other three got one as well. Another oddity from Doors world. PART CONTRACT signed by Jim for the band to make an American Bandstand TV appearance in July 1967.Elektra Newsletter May 1968

CORRESPONDENCE between Leon Barnard and Bill Siddons during his attempts to show the films 'Unknown Soldier' & 'Break On Through' in Denmark & Sweden May to June 1968. Obviously there are gaps in this chain but it is interesting to see Leon in action. He is a nice guy and his legendary Leon Audio Moments he published 20 years back were brilliant. He was a member here and there is an interview with him by Jochen Tittmar in The Scorpywag section at the top of the forum.Leon to Bill 27th May 1968Leon to Bill 28th May 1968 Leon to Bill 2nd June 1968Bill to Leon who is still promoting The Doors in Europe after the success of the bands tour a couple of weeks earlier. This a deal made with Music Sales Corporation to publish in book form the 'Complete catalogue of Doors songs. The first one of these I bought was WFTS which I scanned and can be found in the Lyrics/Music forum. I bought this probably late 1972 as I wanted the lyrics to Doors songs. As with WFTS I scanned the article that was included and that can also be found there.

Various stories of how it was too diffuse but my own theory was they dumped it because there was no obvious 'hit' So Elektra and the band conspired to stop what would be a side and a half on an LP and hope this new version would spawn a #1. Which it did. Of course Jim Morrison was not in on this and genuinely hoped for a COTL album which the LA Times reported he was working hard to correct any faults. He was obviously disillusioned by this as his demeanour changed for WFTS which resulted in his bad rap, during this period, of drunkenness and tardiness. I don't blame him but Elektra got their hit.

Jim & Johns draft registration cards The famous John tale where he drove Jim to his interview with the draft board and he was given something mad like a 'Z' rating. However, in an interview on this forum, Jim said he would like to go to Nam and entertain the troops. That would have likely ended the war.

Thank you, a great selection of documents all around, and a truly fab Doors library. The "sign-up book" above is not from TTG. It was discussed in the Freedom Man forum as a book from a rehearsal studio; can be googled up with this knowledge. The first TTG session was on 19.02.1968 for COTL, as per Vince's book and IMO some other sources. Before that, they were at Sunset - the session on 15.01.1968 for which you pictured the invoice was for Spanish Caravan and it seems the one described in Joan Didion's piece. No other Sunset sessions since then are known with surety, only some rehearsal sessions like the ones depicted here. As for COTL, quite possibly it was put to rest by 13.03.1968. The sessions for NTTTE had been on 28.02.1968 already. It's a long story, and I better use the COTL thread.
