This semi-legendary Doors rarity has been talked about for decades and has earned a mythical status among fans. Then we actually heard it and realised it was an over-rated nothing-burger that most likely had nothing to do with Jim leaving for Paris in March 1971.
No-one could remember when it was recorded between 1969-1970. Possibly Morrison Hotel, fans hoped for LA Woman but most likely The Soft Parade. TSP makes sense because Queen Of The Magazines featured on its out-takes and PB is just QOTM with a slight lyric change. Jim sings...
Know where I'm goin' can't remember where I've been Know right where I'm goin' can't remember where I've been Goin' to the city of love, gonna start my life all over again
Once I was young now I'm gettin'old Once I was warm, now I feel cold Well, I'm goin' overseas, gonna grab me some of that gold
Ray has stated it was an LAW out-take but when it was finally released nobody was quite sure. If it is TSP or MH it is meaningless. Only LAW imbues it with mythical proportions.
It is a pretty mediocre track slightly better than She Smells Nice but considering the decades of fuss around it is a damp squib.
Only The Doors could turn such a dirge into an album but hey that's what they do best. 'Lets stick a load of old blues barrel scrapings they already have on there with it and charge £20+ for a limited edition vinyl' And that is what they did.
