I cant see your face in my mind I cant see your face in my mind Carnival dogs Consume the lines Cant see your face in my mind Dont you cry Baby, please dont cry And dont look at me With your eyes I cant seem to find the right lie I cant seem to find the right lie Insanitys horse Adorns the sky Cant seem to find the right lie Carnival dogs Consume the lines Cant see your face in my mind Dont you cry Baby, please dont cry I wont need your picture Until we say goodbyeI think its about his memory slowly fading because of the drug use. The term "carnival dogs" could be a drug reference. When H.G. Wells first came up with the concept of "doors in the wall" ,i.e. certain escapes we can make, he used the example of the carnival. Huxley was the one that took this idea and applied it to drug use. Dogs backwards is spelt God and God is also taking his life away from him. (Look at the Soft Parade, same thing.) i think what this song is about is how Morrison's conciousness is slowly slipping away because of the acid etc. Insanity's horse is a reference to Nietzche's horse (the one he saved from being whipped before being declared insane.) I think that even this early in his life, Morrison knew he was slowly slipping away. Please post your comments/ ideas. Thanks

Nico said that Morrison advised to use dreams as raw material for lyrics. This one is very dream-like and might refer to the difficulty of recapturing dream images.
Dreams are like lies -
Morrison used mood and mind-altering substances to create waking dream state - also used mantras to get thru to sub-conscious - also used hypnotic music for same.
Relation of carnival to drugs - if dog is god reversed, then carn is narc reversed - 'lines' also connected with narcotics - - carnivore also related to dogs as carnivorous creatures -
Constant use of vision related terms in lyrics - 'don't look at me with your eyes' - idea it is possible to 'see' with things other than eyes - such as 'mind' here - seeing with every pore of the body - Eyes cry tears - The horse's eyes are whipped -
Morrison preferred this dream state - he only needs pictures when he is out of that state [when he says goodbye] - prefers death to dreamless sleep, otherwise known as reality -

The song which inspired Jim's girlfriend Pam to slip a photo of herself in the casket.John DensmoreJohn Densmore's cymbal track was recorded backward to gain the soft rhythmic 'whoosh' that underlines the song. Ray Manzarek added marimba to his organ work to further enhance The Doors sound. Jim Morrison thought Strange Days the bands best album and the one that would stand out and define the band once they were History. Strange Days
