Indian Summer was recorded during the debut Doors album session in August 1966....... the version has been available to fans for years now and is exactly the same version that was used on Morrison Hotel with more vocals and music overdubbed to it. It was most likely rejected because it was a bit too thin and wishy washy for the debut and obviously needed more work as did the version of Moonlight drive they did......... It works much better on Morrison Hotel and is a great little Doors song.
It was most likely written in 1966 and is dedicated to Pam Courson as Jim had by that time hooked up with her.....we know Jim wrote a few songs about Mary Werbelow in 1965 and it may well have been one from that time but most Doors fans assume its about Pam.....which it probably is.........

I hate the song because its so lame. Its a rejected song, that they threw on MH as a filler.
Buyt one interesting thing is the title "Indian Summer" Now traditionally, Indian Summer is like when its wicked hot out in September/October. I see this song as perhaps a spark of passion and life in Jim Morrison before he died (like everythin dies in the winter)

Its the way it goes....Hello I Love You was a filler on the WFTS album suggested by a 10 year old who liked it and that became a hit for The Doors outside the US during their lifetime..... which is something LMF never did....

Personally Indian Summer to me is Amazing as it seems more Poetic than Lyrical, if you know what I mean. Oh, and sorry for saying it was recorded in 1966, a little typo.

Maybe it was recorded in 65 and none of us know about it?

Maybe it was recorded in 65 and none of us know about it? Actually that is a good point as it is now rumoured that The Doors actually recorded more songs during their September 1965 Aura Demo session and chose the 6 we hear on the demo as the best of the ones they did. So it is indeed possible that Indian Summer was part of that session. How true that is and what chance there is of them still existing is unknown. Also if that is the case this cannot be a song about Pamela Courson as Jim did not meet her until the London Fog in 1966 which would make this more likely another song about Mary Werbelow.
