What is your opinion on this album and do you reckon Jim would have liked it?
What tracks do you think sound the most morrisonesque and do you reckon they set out to make some of the songs sound morrison-esque as a tribute to him?
lots of questions.....I love the album and listen to it quite frequently...i like every track to be honest and would be best to say what my least fave track is, which is probably ships w/ sails...although it is still a good song i reckon they tried to make it too ROTSy, which made it lack something else.

I agree with Cowboy to an extent ....obviously I don't think its shite as I enjoy the album but with the gift of hindsight its far too easy to see that it was lost as a Doors album without Morrison.....for me botyh OV and Full Circle are Doors albums but I cannot find a great deal of argument with those who disagree..... As to whether Jim would have liked the album....its doubtful as 'Wandering Musician', 'I'm Horny I'm Stoned' and 'Down On The Farm' were all from the LA Woman session (we know this as Jerry Scheff plays bass on these 3 tracks) and its rumoured that Jim did sing at least one of those songs 'Down On The Farm' but also refused to sing 'I'm Horny I'm Stoned'. So its doubtful he would have been too impressed with the rest.....perhaps 'Ships w/ Sails' would have interested him as it was indeed reminiscent of ROTS and I am sure he would have apprecited the tribute to him of 'Tightrope Ride'.....Full Circle? I think he would have shat his pants in anger at that album..... Love that ticket BC...its days like that I wished I had had dihorea... Ray himself said this about the albums...... “It just wasn’t the same without Jim. I felt that we were just lost man! It was impossible for us to continue as the Doors we should have recorded those albums as Manzarek, Densmore and Krieger it would have made a lot more sense and said hey we used to be the Doors but are not The Doors anymore the Doors are Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek. That’s the Doors. Take away ANY (his emphasis NOT mine) part and it’s not The Doors anymore and man we lost the number one part the lead singer himself…the word man and it was impossible to continue to be The Doors so after the second album I just said hey man lets put it to bed you guys…lets close the Doors…no sense continuing. We are not The Doors…The Doors are four people The Doors are not three people and we could never replace Jim Morrison and so lets just give up” Ray Manzarek Three Hours For Magic Radio Show 1982And lets not forget (RICK) that we do indeed have a Post Jim section here already with lots of information on that period..... newdoorstalk.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=DiscusstheDoorscirca1971to1973&action=display&thread=1103734598

In response to Rays quote there... fuck you Ray. You can't replace ANY of the members of the doors? Uh hello..... you replaced two of em. You didnt have much problem replacing John either and essentially trying to call it the doors.
The 3 men that made OV and FC were a HELL of alot more the doors then D21C or Riders On The Storm or whatever the fuck they want to call it.
In response to the first post... I think all of Rays songs (not the vocals but the songs) were done in a classic Doors style and with some Morrison vocals would have satisfied any fan.

How about you tell them... "you're an idiot" That'd suit me down to the ground. They are two records made by the men who wrote and created all of the music during the Morrison era. The Doors was not about any one person. I think the last thing Jim would have wanted was for everyone to make him an Idol as if the doors were "Jim and some other guys" But thats precisely what they've become. And thats what they perpetuate by not releasing these albums on a modern format and not even mentioning them on their official site.
Morrison had a more dynamic singing voice yea... better? probably.. but i dont see lyrics and/or vocals as the most important part of songs.. i think the music is more imporant. You can take any lyrics and control the tone of it by what music goes to it. If you took Jims words and put it to circus music it would suck. But the doors music can have stupid lyrics like No Moleste mosquito and it still kicks ass.
The music controls your baser emotions. Lyrics are just for psudo intellectualism. Do we even understand wtf half of Jims words are about? And it doesnt matter if we do or not. He sings em well.. and its put to good music so its entertaining. All I can say negative about OV and FC is that.. if I look at it as someone critiquing vocals... no they arent as impressive.
If people don't like em because they just dig Jim's voice. Great for them. But don't say you're a doors fan (fan is short for fanatic) and then hate 1/4 of their output. That's not a fanatic. Say you're a Jim Morrison fan.
Jim's own words:
“ who wants to listen to a guy who is just talking? It’s the music that counts. That’s what they want to hear. Anyone can talk. But how many guys can play music and sing?”
