As a warm up to the East Coast Tour The Doors perform at Elektra's first ever national sales convention in The Riviera Hotel in Palm Springs California. This also includes the debut of Harry Chapin who would become an Elektra legend and Carly Simon one of the labels faves..... Cash Box reported: "The Doors were another treat. They're a powerful rock group with great sounds. Including some amazing work by guitarist Robby Krieger. And you seem to appreciate thier musical ability more now that your attention is not rivited to one individual the like of giant handsome idol Jim Morrison. Fascinating entertainment at the Elektra meeting"...... Cash Box January 22nd 1972.
This turns out to be an encore appearance for Vince Treanor thier genius sound man who helps out at the concert part of the convention..
Elektra would use the convention as a springboard to introduce 'Wierd Scenes Inside The Goldmine' which would be thier own homage to the man who made Elektra great and the new 3 piece Doors would release 'Tightrope Ride'...thier own tribute to Jim that month as well as begin work on what would become 'Full Circle' thier final album.

Pity. They were on a roll.. but some people measure their success in nickles and dimes.

Yeah its a shame but nickels and dimes are all bands are to record companies........Elektra was a rarity like the 'Harvest' and 'Famous Charisma Label' here in the UK who nurtured talent for talents sake not with a view to a buck but by 72 Elektra was part of the corporate machine.....Holzman had it in mind to replace the focus of Elektra from the 3 piece Doors (who he thought were done) with our band Audience who he liked a lot and had signed from Charisma for the American market along with bands like Genesis, Lindisfarne and The Incredible String Band. But by '73 Audience had broken up due to lack of success here and his Plan B was to augment Howard Werth thier lead singer with Ray, Robby and John in a new jazz blues orientated Doors line up...... Rehearsals took place but Ray pulled out for reasons to be found on some of the other threads here in this section.....the rest is history....The Doors were dead...

“We presented our artist and new releases to our WEA marketing sales staff at our annual convention. For the weekend event we held it in Palm Springs in 1972. On Friday evening we showcased The Doors. After Jim died I ha re-signed ray, Robby and John to a multi record deal, my way of showing them it wasn't all Jim and saying thank you with Warner's money. Their first album Other Voices was released in October 1971 and to launch the record and the new reality we put on a Carnegie Hall concert. Carnegie Hall was big enough to hold a crowd and three quarters of the way to intimacy. With Ray doing most of the singing The Doors wowed the sell out audience of soaked in brine Doors fanatics. At palm Springs they played another killer set at the restaurant atop the tramway overlooking the city.”
