CAREFUL WITH THAT GUN ERIC November 25, 2002 Just released in paperback is, Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Eric Burdon's memoirs about the long and hard days with his band The Animals and War. According to readers though, the most interesting part of the book is when Burdon recounts the time he almost shot Jim Morrison: "Jim (Morrison) had an awful habit of sleeping outside my front door, or outside my window, or crashing on my porch, and all that. And I took it all lightly at first. I mean, when I first met him I thought he was an engaging character. We'd always be pulling stunts on each other. Bu, um, this stunt went on a bit too long. And someone had given me a gift of a handgun, and I warned him that I was going to shoot the chandelier down. I, uh, almost did. The lesson I learned therein I um, I've never touched a gun since," As expected, he never saw Jim Morrison again. Yeah, that's a great story about Jim in the vestibule. In the same book Eric recounts his time filming The Doors movie & how he met this girl who wanted to be an extra on the movie & Eric was lusting after her but she kept talking about her husband & then one day Eric took her home & in the woman's room was a shrine to Jim with the American Poet poster, & the woman's grandmother kept pointing at the picture of Jim & saying "espousa" Spanish for husband.
