The last chapter of the serial: "5CD LA Woman 40th Anniversary". Doorsmanagement, on 10 December 2011 - 06:52 PM, said:Hi, All: Regarding the planned 5-disc set, you can put all your conspiracy theories away. It's very simple - we've been "discussing" the release with Rhino (fighting/pleading/demanding/cajoling/convincing) and there are concerns on their end. 5-disc packages are not cheap to manufacture, and they want to be sure that not only is the market there, but do we have a place to distribute them? NOT easy in this day & age, when record stores are disappearing, and online-only sales - while significant - do not make up for the shortfall. Not even close. The 5-disc set is to consist of the original 2-disc L.A. Woman 40th Anniversary release, plus 3 discs of ALL the outtakes, alternate takes and studio chatter from L.A. Woman that we have. Here is what I know so far, and NOTHING is etched in stone: I think where we've all come to is that we want the outtakes/alternate takes/studio chatter to be made available to you, and we want it available in physical product (CDs) as well as digital. I believe this WILL happen. However, it will probably be reduced to a 3-disc set (JUST the alternates/outtakes/chatter), and packaged so as to be affordable (i.e. NOT an expensive, all-out designed hard box). So, you'll definitely see the 2-disc 40th Anniversary L.A. Woman on January 24th 2012, and then you'll probably see a separate, 3-disc set of all outtakes/alternates/chatter at an affordable price (most likely under 50 dollars) in a nice, soft box holder sometime after January (March? May? Not sure yet, but def in 2012). We will probably manufacture in UK and then bring some over here for our US fans, and distribute the remainder in Europe. UK does not have time to design, lay out and manufacture the 5-disc set for January - so we told them we'd rather see it as two releases (a 2-disc 40th Anniversary LA Woman and a 3-disc alternate/outtakes/chatter package), even if the 3-disc has to come later. I will advise you when I know more, but I think it's safe to say you'll have what you want. The two releases together will equal the original 5-disc concept, as far as material goes. So, no one has to buy a duplicate. For all those that preordered the 5-disc box on our site, you will be given several options which are still being decided. The only option we know of FOR SURE is that anyone who wants their money back will be 100% refunded without any problems. The other options we're discussing are some bundles which include the 2-disc set, the 3-disc set, and some special merch which may ONLY be available to those who preordered. I intend to make sure it's worth your while - but as I said, anyone who wants their money back will get it instantly, cheerfully, and no questions asked. The 3-disc set, when it comes, will be available ONLY in VERY limited quantities in the US (probably only 1000 copies or so), and I intend/hope for them to be numbered. We already have almost 300 preorders, so if all of those folks want it, that leaves only 700 remaining for the US (IF we stick to the 1000 number). As details become available, I will post them here - no use asking me a million times....if I don't reply, it's because I don't have any answers. It's like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place - you all want info ASAP (and deservedly so), but if I tell you our "plans" (i.e., NOT confirmed), then some of you will be angry when my prognostications turn out to be inaccurate. So.....I am trying to be careful here as to what I tell you, while at the same time not being 100% incommunicado. I know you guys want the info, you want it ASAP, you deserve to have it, and just know we're deeply into woking on this and getting everything set in stone. But we have partners, and extant market conditions, and financial people, and a lot of territories, and a shrinking label workforce, and, and, and....please just try to stand by while we work it out. We know what you want, we're striving to deliver just that, and to satisfy all other conditions at the same time. www.thedoors.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21343&st=760

What a pile of crap from this LIAR.....if he just waited until he could be sure of what he could actually deliver before opening his big lying mouth to have Doors fans suck up to him then he would not get in messes like this. The guy is an idiot and a liar and I would not trust what he said if he told me my own name. I don't believe his Rhino crap as Rhino release sets like this from way less popular bands than The Doors. Jampol has a history of blaming others when he is in the shit. He blamed Barneys beanery for the piss plaque fiasco. Who knows what the truth is but bear in mind John Densmore gets a vote on this and JD is the one sensible voice in this pack of lying idiots. We know from the shoe farce Jampol got himself into when he claimed ALL the Doors were involved in the design only for Densmore to post on his own forum that he had NOT been involved in that. Maybe JD thought the idea too unweildy as the 5 disc set was not music as such just rehearsal and chatter. Maybe he was the voice of reason here but Jampol can't blame John or he will get his ass kicked again from Mr D. So he blames Rhino who take his shit. One thing is certain whatever Jampol says it will be a pack of lies

I knew they didn't have enough material to warrent this release. I will only get the 3 CD version digitally and as cheaply (free?) as possible as it will, of course, be worth hearing ... ONCE. At this point I don't care who is full of shit. Bottom line: The Doors camp fucked up. Again. What is it with these guys/this guy?

Pretty threadbare release again from these crooks. £18 for a blu ray with an hour look at the LAW album and some {probably} minor input from Densmore as a bonus. The debut album DVD was the same. I will see it no doubt but it's not worth buying. This whole LAW anniversary has been a total fuck up from start to finish. Nothing unusual about that as those clowns have a record of this going back decades. It's just having Jampot on board makes it funnier I would say I wonder what the silent majority here think about all this but I doubt they could contribute a decent sentence on it

I think about saying "rare footage" is a way of trying to catch naive people. The trailer doesn't show anything that we haven't seen before. So there will be a lot of people talking and repeating what they have been saying from 40 years ago. The DVD costs £10 in Amazon, so it's cheaper than the Blu-ray.

This is why I call them liars collectively. They are putting this out and they know that there is no real rare footage of the LAW period. The Australian TV bit with CKS. Rare footage and rare tracks are ways of getting fans to pay for this kind of thing. 'Undiscovered' footage or music, 'lost for 40 years' all this is a way of hooking fans. I have lost all respect for this crew in the last 10/12 years. There will probably be something nobody has seen before that lasts 10 seconds but other than that 'rare' to The Doors is something that has only been milked 5 times. 10 quid is OK but still for a 1 hour DVD it's at the expensive end. The Doors don't do cheap. I may buy the DVD or get it some other way depends if I feel like giving these crooks my cash when I see it. The album in any of it's forms I will pass on and will hear some other way. I think I have bought LAW enough times over the last 40 years

Well, I figured. It was a joke. I figured you'd be on that thing like a fly on shit, for good or ill ... Me, I suffer from audiophilia, so I need something with good sound quality.

Well believe me mate I may be old and decrepit but I don't intend to get one that sounds like it was played through a tin wastebin. Top notch quality or nothing. Of course I don't listen to music through a 2 grand stereo but it's still 40 year old music and too much fiddling takes away the thing that made it worth listening to in the first place. Like many philias I think a painful course of injections with bromine can help.....audiophilia.....just say NO!

I don't have super expensive equipment, and I do 95% of my listening on an iPod, but a good deal of the stuff that you can get illegally on the net sounds like dogshit or has glitches. I have no time for that shit. I refuse to listen to the file of Aquarius First Show that Grant provided the band cuz it has some digital clicks and pops. Not acceptable! Ha ha! I will eventually probably purchase it from iTunes if I want it bad enuff. I have enuff live Doors to last a lifetime ...

Now that the 5 CD has bitten the dust and Jeff Jampol scrabbles around to blame anyone but him for his own hubris we can at least look forward to a 2 and 3 CD set which give us 4 discs of Doors History.
I think most avid Doors fans would enjoy this chance to experience the evolution of some of the LAW tracks. Obviously a bit of a curio but of tremendous Historical value.
If it was not for this fuckwit Jampol we would probably have seen both the 2 and 3 CD releases by now. This man truly sickens me with his lies and duplicity. He sucks up to Doors fans with his pathetic boasting about releases without even a clue whether they are viable or even exist.
I certainly look forward to hearing the 3 CD set Rawhide sounds a cool addition. I used to watch that TV show as a kid. It is indeed a pity that the Ghost Riders In The Sky jam was not likely recorded but what is there interest me.
Hopefully there will be a proper chronology for the tracks so we can share the evolving experience and some decent liner notes.
So we have ......
8 incomplete Changelings and 4 complete
3 incomplete LHM and 2 versions
6 incomplete ROTS and 1 version
5 LAW incomplete and 3 finished
6 BDSL incomplete and 2 versions
3 incomplete WASP and 3 complete
1 incomplete CKS
L'America had been completed for Zabriske Point so no CHBMW or HH.
Also disc 2 of the January release
Disc Two: All Selections Previously Unissued 01. The Changeling – Alternate Version * 02. Love Her Madly – Alternate Version * 03. Cars Hiss By My Window – Alternate Version * 04. L.A. Woman – Alternate Version * 05. The WASP (TexasRadio and the Big Beat) – Alternate Version * 06. Been Down So Long – Alternate Version * 07. Riders On The Storm – Alternate Version 08. She Smells So Nice * 09. Rock Me *
I presume these are not the same as the 3 disc set also that CHBMW is NOT the one released on the LAW DVD with the extra verse.

As you say, fascinating historically ... but I think I am only gonna want to hear this one once! We'll see. 2 CD set looks like it would get more repeat listens. I will hear them both some way, though, I am sure ... I'm nerdy enough that, if the liner notes were thorough enough and provided a chronology for the tracks, I would make my own 5 CD set in iTunes by inserting the complete takes of tunes from disc 2 of the 2 CD set into the tracklisting of the 3 CD set and listen to the whole album evolve. So, why no HH? Was that recorded at the L'America session(s)? Or do they just not have any surviving outtakes of that tune?

I think I read that they only needed two times to record Riders on the storm. Now it turns out they recorded the song at least 10 times.

Cassandra, you'll notice that the track titles for ROTS in the 3 CD set have the phrase "false start" in brackets. This would mean the take was unsucessful (i.e.: it broke down before the performance was completed). So, I think, but am not positive, there were only one or two COMPLETE takes of the tune.

BTW, Alex, did you read on The Doors forum that the release date of the Workshop double LP has been moved back to mid-March, 2012 because the etching for side 4 was unacceptable to the band/management? Here's an idea ... put some FUCKING MUSIC on side 4! If they would include a choice selection of stuff from the 3 CD box on side 4, I bet it would increase sales as it would most likely be a good middle point, price-wise, for those that would like a little more than the 2 CD set but still don't want to spring for the 3 CD set. Twats. Not that I am going to buy the LP, but this kind of bullshit sure doesn't help their case any ... I really can't remember a bigger cock up about a catalogue release/reissue than this ... this one takes the fucking biscuit! Even moreso than the Matrix fuck-up, in my humble opinion. The Doors' official forum is mostly full of arse-kissers, but it is nice to see at least a COUPLE of dissenting opinions re: the LAW 40th debacle amongst the sycophants. I've decide the thing I most want from the "Year of The Doors" is a CD/Blu-Ray combo pack of Live At The Hollywood Bowl. Been years since I've heard the 1987 EP. Only ever personally owned the material that's on In Concert (two tracks). Bring it the fuck ON!
